5.0 out of 5 stars This Is Where We Were, May 11, 2011
This review is from: This Is Where We Were (Audio CD)
Not too many people understand this album. The goal of the album was to get a group of amazing musicians and, basically, improvise all the music. I believe the goal was to use the awkward feeling of trying to sync up with the people your playing with and turn that raw energy into musical progression.

The awkward feeling I refer to is something not many can relate too, but many people who've played in a band can definitely identify with the feeling. It is this feeling, and these people, who I believe sculpted the specific sound to this album.

As a warning to novice eyedea fans; this isn't like e&a, first born, or by the throat.

It is very up and down with rapid transitions in feelings and music.

My personal favorite track is The art of faking orgasm.

2.0 out of 5 stars This Candy doesn't sound too good, March 9, 2007

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge supporter of Eyedea and the rhymesayers crew, and when I heard that they were releasing an album of freestyles naturally I got excited. However, I was very dissappointed in how this album turned out. I don't know if it is becuase the mc's and the band weren't in sync or because it is very difficult to freestyle about whatever is on your mind. The opening track is decent buy after that none of them are very good. The guys would have been better off battling against each other with the band providing a beat behind them. I realize they made an album of this kind because they wanted to branch out and expand as artists, but sometimes it is better to stick with what you know. Maybe this album fulfilled some void in these rappers lives, but I would like them to stick to the studio making awesome beats and rhymes. Were a lot of time and energy has to be put in to get the right combination of words, instead of just throwing stuff out there that makes almost no sense. Let me just end this saying I love the rhymesayers crew and always will, but this is probably one of the worst cd's that they have put out.
