5.0 out of 5 stars PRAISE HIM KELLY!!!
I purchased this CD this past weekend and I wished I had bought it the first day it came out!! Totally anointed, I've always been a fan of Kelly's and have all of her secular cd's as well. She has a powerful, spirit moving voice and I always knew she would return to her roots. I watched her do a duet with Bishop Paul Morton on BET Gospel Awards and she brought me to my...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm sorry this is her first christian album...
I had high expectations to say the least. I listen mostly to gospel music, and also have all of Kelly Price' albums. Maybe the greatest combinations I could imagine this year. Still the effort disappoints. The sound is too booming, the singing is sometimes even flat (although there are lots of great moments), the arrangements especially and the songs are uneven and not up...

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelly Price's first gospel album,, February 12, 2007
This review is from: This Is Who I Am (Audio CD)
It's surprising to know that this is Kelly Price's first gospel album, and a glance through the inlay suggests this is something of a much-anticipated homecoming for her. I'll say it sounds like she never left with this album aptly titled This Is Who I Am. One can argue that this is perhaps her best album vocally as the gospel repertoire lends itself to her natural style developed as she grew up in her father's church. Heavyweight support of Donnie McClurkin, Richard Smallwood and Vanessa Bell-Armstrong give the event extra also feature.

Choice cuts are the straight `This Is Who I Am' laid down on the one, `The Warning' and `Healing' has touches of Karen Clark-Sheard, `Get Up And Praise' is par for the course but still sweet on the feet and revisiting (and romping through) the classic `God Is Not Dead' was quite special for me. To end it all we have another classic `Nobody But Jesus' where Kelly and Vanessa Bell-Armstrong fight it out like two pikes in a goldfish bowl, all to great effect.

There's enough here for this fine album to make a big impact on the gospel scene. Correct to say there's little ministry between the songs but that's a moot point - the album is a symbolic return to what Kelly knows. `This Is Who I Am' is recommended buying and it will be interesting to see how Kelly Price follows this excellent gospel debut.

Good gospel debut from Kelly. I enjoy Healing, number 6, 7, 1 alot.
Wouldn't say this is her best project to date. Go out and buy her Christmas cd for the Holiday, thats a good one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kelly has finally allowed the world to see where she needs to be, in the gospel realm., November 2, 2006
This review is from: This Is Who I Am (Audio CD)
Artist: Kelly Price

Label: Gospo Centric/ Zomba

Title: This Is Who I Am

Although Kelly Price is known for the power to bring down a house with her breathtaking voice, she has seen fit to give us a sample of her gospel roots within her first Christian release. The CD is full of tear jerking songs that relay a message of hope in a time full of desperate happenings. Kelly seems to be comfortable and confident with each song which successfully tells a story that ends with the message of praise. My only gripe with this CD is that almost every song sounds alike and Kelly's range isn't shown as well as it could be. The crowd seems energetic and receiving. I wasn't able to find any particular songs that totally jump out and capture a listener. This collection appears to be a very safe gospel album combining the old with the new, but doing it in a refreshing way. I'm glad to see that Kelly isn't afraid to go back to her roots. She is truly a vessel of inspiration.

Don't get me wrong I love Kelly and I truly think she has one of the best voices out there, but I really feel this album was lacking. There are some decent songs on here, but it really wasn't what I expected it to be. Most of them seem like live recorded songs instead more of a studio album. I didn't expect that. My Favorite song on this album is "Just as I am" where she says the Lord made her just how he wanted her to be and he loves her just as she is. Love the meaning behind this song, very inspirational for anyone who struggles with self esteem or just to be reassured that God made you who you are and he loves you for that. For this song alone I would give this album 5 stars. There is a few others that I like on here but I think it maxes out at about 3 songs for me. I would have really liked to have heard more studio songs songs from her. The album just seemd a little dated to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Kelly!!!!, November 5, 2006
This review is from: This Is Who I Am (Audio CD)
Yeah ... the first thought that came to mind was the Amazing Grace double CD recorded by Aretha Franklin. It had such a drawing power for the secular audience. In times like these, the secular audience is depending on artist like Kelly to usher them into the glory of gospel. I must say Kelly has done an AMAZING job. You will probably gravitate to "Healing" and understandably so. However, don't stop there ... start from the beginning and let "This Is Who I Am" bless you. It's certainly the TOP cut on the project.

If I had to give Kelly words of encouragement, I would tell her to read these comments. There's some good info from one of the critics who suggest that adding J. Ligon, D. McClurkin and V. Armstrong did not help sell the project. However, they are great names in GOSPEL. I would agree that your (Kelly) potential stands alone. I will add that I have ALL the Kelly music and would buy anything that you release.

Fans, get out there and support our girl. You'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Amazing!!!, December 2, 2006
This review is from: This Is Who I Am (Audio CD)
Kelly Price is such a talented singer. I have all of her CDs and have never been disappointed. This new CD is so Amazing. Since I purchased it a couple weeks ago I have not been able to stop listening.I like all of the songs but my favorites are: The Warning, What a friend, Just as I am and Healing. As someone who struggles everyday with so many issues, songs like these really help. I would definitely recommend this CD. I know you will enjoy it.

I had high expectations to say the least. I listen mostly to gospel music, and also have all of Kelly Price' albums. Maybe the greatest combinations I could imagine this year. Still the effort disappoints. The sound is too booming, the singing is sometimes even flat (although there are lots of great moments), the arrangements especially and the songs are uneven and not up to par with the best in modern gospel music. The apperances of Joe Ligon, Donnie McClurkin and Vanessa Bell Armstrong in particular is no selling point. Especially the last one exhibits a kind of oversinging (oversouling) that makes her almost a parody of her self while singing her own "Nobody But Jesus" after Kelly Price. There are so much wonderful in the catalog of Vanessa Bell Armstrong, not at least "the orginal" of this song, that it's really sad if this is the last we are going to hear from her (hopefully not). Kelly Price obviously is a woman of many talents, but I would prefer if she had sought out more help with production and songwriting from other people. I would rather recommend other (secular) albums from Kelly Price than this one. She's normally a better singer than her songs, but what about a best of from Island Records, now that she's a gospel artist on another label. If you want good contemporary gospel from a former R&B singer, try Coko...
