5.0 out of 5 stars Inside story of The Globe resurrection., May 19, 2011

This review is from: This Wooden 'o' (Hardcover)
I purchased a copy of this book at The Globe theatre's souvenir section several years ago. I read it on the flight back to America, wishing all the while that I had read the book prior to visiting this historic theatre. It tells the inspirational and often frustrating campaign led by American actor Sam Wannamaker to rebuild The Globe exactly as it stood some 400 years ago. A truly amazing story. The book reads like a novel with Wannamaker fighting against stubborn legal and cultural roadblocks until his dream reached fruition. This is a must read for anyone planning a visit to The Globe in the future - which I highly recommend, by the way. I ordered a second copy of this book for a young couple visiting London for the first time. They've just arrived today, May 19th. They promised to read the book before landing. They have tickets to "As You Like It" later this week. I can't wait for their feedback.
