Hey Yankee fans there is a good book that can be added to your library titled "This Day in Yankee History" that was written by Roland L. Meinstereifel which is written in simple and easy to find information on your favorite Yankee of all eras. 1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously Overpriced And Poorly Presented
I was in for a major letdown when I received this...I expected a lot more than (a) a skimpy thin paperback book and (b) a random collection of jottings that are not presented in a clear, readable fashion. This is nothing more than a glorified post-it-note calendar book turned into a thin softcover with skimpy details and then given an outrageously high price. If...

Review "This Day in Yankee History"

Hey Yankee fans there is a good book that can be added to your library titled "This Day in Yankee History" that was written by Roland L. Meinstereifel which is written in simple and easy to find information on your favorite Yankee of all eras. It is laid out in chronological order and has a very easy to use Index allowing you to come up with the necessary information in very short time. Quite a few of the items in the book have long since been forgotten by most of us but when you start reading these items it brings back many pleasant memories. In fact I believe that some of the items cannot be found in other publications and this book will be a valuable part of your collection.

With a history that spans almost on hundred years it is awfully hard to put all that data in one publication. TDIYH does just that. Let's say you wanted to know what happened on your birthday, you would simply go to that date and read away. For example I want to know what happened on April 7th. I turn to the month of April and continue until I reach the seventh. For starters it tells me that Mel Stottlemyre won his third straight opener for the Yankees, 8-4 over the Washington Senators. Bobby Murcer hit a home run to ruin Ted William's managerial debut. You can get information like this for all 365 days in the year.

The writer, Ronald L. Meinstereifel is a psychologist and self-taught baseball historian. He currently resides in Nelson, Pennsylvania. Mr. Meinstereifel list all his sources in the bibliography so if you get interested in a certain subject you can investigate further on it. Many of the books listed here are probably in your collection already. Plus he has the players indexed to help you know the daily highlights of their Bomber careers.

All of the data is not lengthy and to the point so you do not get bored and stop reading. It is not a book that you have to read cover to cover but once you start you won't be able to put it down. Like all good books there may be some data overlooked. But I dare you to find any important date that was overlooked in this fine compliation!

However if you are looking for a good reference on Yankee history this book is the answer. Most of us do not like to spend time hunting and looking for data we want. It is a book we recommend for Yankee fans.

TDIYH is the next best thing to having the press sheets in front of you. It is like having the history of America's most infamous baseball club at your fingertips. It is the book to complete your New York Yankee collection.

"This Day in Yankee History" is now available in soft cover from McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers

This is nothing more than a glorified post-it-note calendar book turned into a thin softcover with skimpy details and then given an outrageously high price. If you're used to the kind of detailed study like in Lyle Spatz's book about the history of Yankee trades, you won't find anything to like here.
