More About the Author

Doris J. Rapp, MD currently resides and consults part time as a doctor in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Rapp is board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Allergy, and Environmental Medicine and is also a homeopath. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Emeritus) at the State University of New York in Buffalo. Dr. Rapp had a traditional allergy practice for 18 years and then, after learning about environmental medicine in 1975, she began to incorporate the principles of this form of "green" medicine in her pediatric allergy practice. Dr. Rapp is a past president of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine and author of many books including the New York Time's bestseller Is This Your Child?. Dr. Rapp has produced many videos demonstrating the dramatic physical and behavioral changes in both children and adults that can be produced using a more precise method of allergy testing called Provocation/Neutralization. This surprisingly informative diagnostic testing and treatment method often relieves symptoms in just a few minutes and can dramatically demonstrate specific cause and effect health relationships. Dr. Rapp is passionate about helping allergic children and their families overcome learning, behavioral, activity and medical symptoms. She strives to find answers that use fast, easy and inexpensive methods such as diet, avoidance, air and water purifiers, exercise, nutrients, natural detoxification and simple, healthy lifestyle changes.

Rapp, a Pediatric Allergist MD focuses on "brain allergy" in this book. This 600+ page book may seem daunting but it is not hard to read and you can pick and choose the chapters that you are interested in and that apply to your situation. It is also easy to skim for basic information at first and then if you need to delve into detail you can go back and read each word and section that applies to you.
Black and white photographs, paragraphical text, case studies, and lists are the ways that Rapp describes the various maladies that are caused by brain allergies. There are easy to reference lists and separate chapters on how allergies manifest in infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents.
After the discussion of the allergy symptoms Rapp moves on to how to detect the food culprit and how to confirm via testing with provocation/neutralization (P/N) testing. This testing entails a pinprick for up to 40 times in one session PER FOOD, administered by the physician. Rapp discusses the single and multiple food elimination diet, and the rotary diet. She gives you all the information you need to know to implement these plans but advises you seek the council of a physician. Rapp explains that she prepares a diluted solution of allergy extract serum that the parent can administer to the child to reduce the affect of the allergic reaction (mixed up by the doctor and sold to the patient). Rapp also gives instructions for using an alkali nonprescription item to stop the allergic reaction once it has begun.
Hypoglycemia is also discussed briefly and how sometimes the patient may have hypoglycemia-only, allergies-only, or both hypoglycemia and allergies together.

This book was recommended to me when my physician suspected that food allergies were causing my depression and stomach problems. I read the book and was astounded at the evidence here and how well it is presented. The title of the book implies that it is just for diagnosing children, but every person can benefit by it. Just think of all the adult behaviors that might be caused by food allergies -- violence, depression, isolation, anxiety, giddiness, exhaustion, and so on. It is a sad commentary that the medical community doesn't give much credence to food allergies, as I have found in wandering from specialist to specialist. When my allergies were discovered and I avoided the food, my depression cleared in six months. What a fantastic cure, and so simple and inexpensive -- just the cost of this book and the IGG blood test.

This book contained information that greatly improved my families quality of life! Doris Rapp gives you the information to recognize unsuspecting allergies by being your own detective. She shows how a good record keeper can pinpoint a specific reaction caused by a specific allergen. She also alerts her readers about how unsuspecting behavoir problems, constant sicknesses, bed wetting, hyperactivity, and headaches could be the result of undiagnosed allergies.I liked the way Dr. Rapp enforces that no one knows your child better than his or her parents and that you should trust that "gut" feeling. I feel that she supplies the reader with enough resources to be able to identify an allergy and to possibly be able to control it.This book has also enabled my family to lead more healthy, happy and productive lives! If this book is helpful, one will want to read Dr. Rapp's other books on allergies.

This book was an eye opener for us. Our daughter had many ADHD type symptoms; angry outbursts, emotional meltdowns, and was fidgety, restless, and unable to stay focused. After following the book's recommended rotational diet, we figured out what foods she reacted to. Avoiding those foods (especially corn) produced dramatic positive results. She is now an alert, attentive, angel of a child. This book is a must for any parent with a problematic child.
And contrary to one reader's review, the NIH has conducted double blind studies supporting Dr. Doris Rapp's findings.

My mom always knew that something was bothering me but she couldn't figure it out. Doctors didn't help her. When I was 8 I started to feel really sick and get headaches every day. I didn't want to go to school anymore. My mom used this book to do the elimination diet on me and it turned out that wheat was bothering me. We later found out that I have Celiac disease. I never had any of the regular symptoms. My mom was tested and she has Celiac disease too. I am 10 now and on the honor roll at school.

When I first saw Dr. Doris Rapp on the talk shows back when this book first was published it opened my eyes to my own sons problems....read it over and over and started applying the testing and homeopathic remedies and stopping the foods he was showing allergic reactions to. After a year of the homeopathic remedies and a slow start back of those same foods *mile, chocolate, cinnamon* we had no more problems. This was a child who had severe allergic reactions including asthma attacks that would leave him choking and unable to breathe. (very frightening)After two years of doctors of every specialty, and tons of meds with the resulting hyperactivity and no real cure, I had had it!!!
Now, my son is a tall, strong, and wonderfully healthy 17 yr. old with no behavioral problems nor allergies or asthma. You best believe that we keep homeopathics in our home 365 days a year now.
Now I buy the book everytime I get the chance so that I can pass it on to others who need this wonderful doctors sound thinking and real help. Is your child hyperactive, have un-controllable rages, depressions, suicidal, sick with allergies and asthma, learning disabilities? Any of these problems? BUY THIS BOOK! You won't be sorry you did.
