Wow! More than just a 60's/70s mood -- great songs here,

Don't have a lot of time to detail all the songs, but will just say that this was a very pleasant surprise! If you dig the late 60's/early 70's era of soul/R&B/early funk, you will really enjoy this sampler. Think James Brown, Booker T, B.T. Express, AWB and so forth and you'll get the vibe.
I'm looking forward to getting more material from these artists. What a welcome relief from all the electronic, over-processed sludge out there! This disk is cookin' with funky R&B grooves and lots of big brass, rhythym guitar and organ flourishes. This will rock your multi-cultural basement party. Now dance!

It is good to hear some good old R&B. As much as I like the new stuff, you can't beat the old sound. Highly recommend.

Definitely good music to program software to. I can imagine this playing in a swanky coffee bar too. Groovin!

I've downloaded almost all of the free stuff from Amazon's MP3 Store. Most of them are cool, but you can see why they're free. However, I find this CD to be remarkable. Daptone Records has an amazing vintage funk/soul feel to them. This is an album I wouldn't mine paying $10 for on here.
Download it and let the funk control your soul. You won't regret it.

Soooo glad this kind of music is still being produced. It's got a great sound, great feel, and what a gift! FREE? Don't let the freeness fool you - it's good good music.

Nothing fancy or over-produced. Feels like classic funk, soul, and yet still fresh. The vocals are present but not prominent, always a bouncing pace, and great to do work to. I'm a video/fx editor and always looking for great music to keep my pace at 2AM... this is now at the top of my list.
Grab it.

If you are a fan of classic soul & funk of the 70s, then you absolutely need to hear this collection! This is the sound of real musicians playing real instruments with heart and soul, and singers with real vocal chops, like artists who made records back before the days of overly sanitized digital perfection.
Sharon Jones and Naomi Davis will remind you of the great soul singers of days gone by -- no melismatic drama queens here. Several of the other tracks are instrumentals and are some of the most exciting music I have heard in recent years. If you fondly remember the days of the great bands of the 70s with hot rhythm and horn sections, this music is for you!

When is a Falcon a lot like a Chicken?,

Nice soul music disk, takes me back to the good ol' days of soul. I think a lot of the artists sound like they're worth giving a try on CD. But from the song preview, I'm curious: what's up with the Chicago Falcon and the Thunder Chicken! Two halves of a suite? They sound a LOT alike, 'cept Thunder Chicken's softer than Chicago Falcon.
I guess all will be revealed in the listening...and I'm none-the-less seriously looking forward to enjoying all the tracks.

Block Rockin beats with a funk twist, highly recommended if you like 70's soundtracks. Non-hesitant 5 star rating, go get it.
