Toy Arrived "Broken"
I've purchased several battery operated engines, and have many friends who have them too and there is a similar problem with them all. The wires connecting the battery to the motor sometimes disconnect and need to be re-soldered. So when your toddler throws it or drops it off a table and it seems it is broken, just open up the triangle-shaped screws and solder those wires back in place...if you know how. Thankfully my friend was able to help me as this toy arrived "broken." But now it works, and we know to be gentle with it, and know how to fix it if it ever happens again.

Our two boys, 4 and 2, love Thomas. We have a large train table and set so every now and then we add new trains. They love the battery powered ones, so I searched on Amazon and found a few. Amazon has the BEST pricing on battery powered trains. They easily cost $22-$29 anywhere else.

As with other Thomas trains, the quality is good and the trains are durable. Our boys drag and toss their trains all over the house. We have stone floors but the trains keep working even after being repeatedly dropped.

We had one battery powered Charlie that didn't have the casing on properly. The screw hole was stripped from the start and couldn't be screwed tight when we put a battery in for the first time. I think it was an isolated incident though. Our other battery powered ones are fine and don't seem to have that issue.

The train arrived and I tried to install a battery. Unfortunately, the screw used on the train is an ultra cheap psuedo-metal screw that doesn't turn easily and fell apart. After an hour of turning and gently trying to ease the screw out, I gave up. (Yes, I was using the appropriate type and size screw driver.) Unfortunately, the train must be returned before ever being used. Sigh... What a pain. Very disappointed child and frustrated parent. The box did not contain any information regarding the return process or a receipt.

These battery-operated trains are such fun for the little ones - ours get challenged to see how many trains and carriages they can pull along our kitchen floor (answer = a lot!). This one gets played with on the floor and on tracks - it does have trouble turning tight bends on tracks, but it doesn't deter my kids from playing with it. They just add "rescuing" the train into their game play.

If you love Thomas the Train, this little battery-operated guy is strong enough to pull 4-5 cars around the wooden track - even up inclines! It's a great addition to all the wooden cars and trains. It's a classic and will be around for a long time.

This train is really powerful. It manages to pull around 10 cars and push all my sons track vehicles (around 10 also and sometimes even more) at the same time easily even up the bridge. I am really impressed with its power. It does not go off the tracks that often and goes with the right speed for 3 years old(not so fast or slow, just right so he can catch or direct it where he wants to). I would definitely recommend using rechargeable batteries for it or otherwise you will have to replace batteries pretty often. I use one of the top rechargeable batteries and have to change it every week or so (for the first time I used regular battery and it was dead by the end of the first day). It has kind of rubber tires on front and back wheels and we clean them from dust when the train seems to loose the power of puling and that resolves the problem. I would recommend this train to anyone.

The metal battery operated engines are very expensive and amazon furnishes them at a more reasonable cost without tax as well.
The engine appeared brand new in original box and my grandson loved that it was Charlie who is harder to find in the stores as we;; as cheaper. I would recommend this product to people who take care of toys as the high prices don't make it feasible to keep losing those motorized engines. They are durable. The engines for wooden tracks run slower. If the child wants a faster engine, try the larger battery operated ones for the Trackmaster tracks. Children usually find the Trackmaster tracks easier to manipulate. We love and have both engines and tracks. They encourage critical thinking, imagination, creativity as well.

It works okay but rarely stays on the track. Every bend it goes around you are holding your breath that it doesn't jump the track. The straight sections are fine, but because the wheels do not turn with the track at all, it wants to just keep going straight. And once it gets loose, it can wreak havoc with your train table...knocking over buildings, signs, people. My kids are frustrated with it and usually just use the other old-fashioned trains without battery power. Also, the battery cover is difficult to remove. But I gave it three stars because it is powerful to pull several cars and does what it's supposed to do for the most part. Just wish they had tried it on some curved pieces of track before making this engine.

My son adores Thomas and his friends. He is now at the age where moving on it's own is REALLY cool (he's 4.5 Y/O) He goes through batteries at a decent rate... almost daily use lasts about a month. One warning though... my brother put his 2.5 y/o son to bed for nap with the same train in the Thomas character, and within 15 minutes he was screaming because his long hair got wound around Thomas's moving wheel. Double warning here...be careful around children younger than 3 or so, and don't give your kids toys in bed!!

We ordered two trains for our two girls (2 & 4 yrs). They were a huge hit. Unfortunately, one train stopped working shortly after we unwrapped it. Two tries at new batteries failed to resolve the situation. Although inconvenient, these things happen. We contacted the seller, and they responded promptly. They are sending us a new train. You can't ask for better service than that.
