Samuel A Humphrey has been making furniture for fun all his life. A Navy engineer, he moved to Charleston, South Carolina and rediredted his hobby to researching the work of Thomas Elfe, a local eighteenth century cabinetmaker. Tracking down many pieces in musuems and private homes, preparing measured drawings, studing Charleston history and poring over archival records resulted in this book and a new, reproduction breakfast table in the author's home.
