I don't know why it should be, but I am surprised at how sturdy these little trains are. My son got the 'Push N Go Thomas' for his birthday 18 months ago (when he was 2), and after we saw how rugged Thomas was, we arranged to acquire Percy too, so that Thomas could have a friend.

Since that time Percy and Thomas have taken innumerable tumbles, been pushed through sand and dirt, covered with rocks and pebbles, and consequently both have taken numerous baths, and they are still going strong.

I thought after he got the smaller RC2 trains that he wouldn't play with these larger trains, but he does. Sometimes they are the daddy trains, sometimes it is just the toy of choice.

We also have found that these trains are a great ice-breaker at the park. Since we have two, my son has found that if he shares (a lesson in itself) he can always find another child to play with.

And it doesn't hurt that these bigger trains are almost impossible to loose outside; whereas the smaller trains, particularly those with tenders, can seem to vanish in the terrain.

Five Stars. A good purchase, in my opinion, for the 15 month and up group. My son is 3.5 years old at this point and still likes them very much. (Now to see if there is a Push N Go James...hmmm)
