Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

Three delightful tales from the Island of Sodor. Thomas fans will laugh when Percy has an accident at the chocolate factory; meet a new engine named Salty who has a secret; and go through a tough day with Harold the Helicopter. Filled with gentle humor and lots of photos to illustrate the cassette?s music and narration.

About the Author

In 1944, a country vicar, the Reverend W Awdry, wrote the stories he had been telling his two young sons about a group of engines with very recognizable personalities. In 1945, the first book featuring Thomas and the other Really Useful Engines was published, and in the 60 years since, the tales of these friendly engines have become beloved classics around the world.

My son is just over 3 and is more of a lots of pictures a little less on the words kid when it comes to books. This has book has several good stories in it, and might be better for a slightly older child or one with a better attention span! The pictures are stills from the series and my son also seems to like the books with drawings a bit more - all that being said he does enjoy the book but it is not his favorite.

My son loves this book. The pictures are similar to the show and he recognizes characters quickly and has started making up his own stories with his choo-choos.

My 3 1/2 year old son enjoys Thomas books, but I think he and I both struggle with this one. This book is the same size as three other Thomas books that are single stories. But this one has three stories in one book. Which means there are more words to a page and feels crammed together. Also, the pictures in this book are like photographs of the TV screen, as opposed to the other three which are drawings. The "photographs" are dark and don't really match what's going on with the words on the page.

Didn't care for this book. Sent it right back...should have done the sample first. I have ordered other Thomas Tank Engine books but this one was not the same format. I let my 2 year old ggson pick the book and he selected it by the picture on the front. He laughed when he saw it. The trouble with this book is...while it has more than one story...the writing is small and the pictures are not big and bright. I started to read to him and he said "no ". So i sent it back and got a different book.

for some reason, this is my kid's favorite. I don't know why, with all the other books he has (even from the same series), this is the one he wants to read over, and over again. (I'm actually pretty sick of stupid "chocolate percy", but he loves it.) The book itself is small, with three short stories, and the plot lines are kind of banal, but you're not looking for war and peace. It's a kid's book, for goodness' sake!

My son loves Thomas & Friends, and I love reading the stories to him. Having Thomas books on my Kindle Fire make it that much easier to have one accessible at all times. This book has several short stories that are great for a toddler. My only complaint is that the font is small and the kindle won't allow you to zoom in or enlarge the text for this book.

My 2 year old grandson loves this book. I especially like that the video set I ordered has the Chocolate Crunch story on it since it is one of his favorites. It is an inexpensive paper covered children's book that you can keep in the car or diaper bag for easy, portable entertainment.

This is the favorite Thomas story in the house...and I think we've read or seen them all. The three year old has it memorized word for word. There are three great stories, but "Dirty Percy" as they call it, is the favorite. Good sturdy cover for a paperback.
