I gave this 5 stars for fun, because my son loved it from day one, and would not leave the store without it. He played with it for days while we waited for school to reopen after Christmas.

3.0 out of 5 stars fun lunchbox, could use improvement
This is a great little lunchbox. My son is a Thomas fanatic and of course loved it right away. I do see a few problems with it- i.e. the images rubbing off. We have only been using the lunchbox for under 3 weeks now (and not everday). I can see a few places where the image is already coming off. I gave this 5 stars for fun, because my son loved it from day one, and would not leave the store without it. He played with it for days while we waited for school to reopen after Christmas.

I rated it 5 stars for educational value, because it made him want to go to school, which is a significant educational achievement indeed.

Unfortunately, I had to mark it down, because the water bottle is already broken at the point where the button to press it open meets the cap. Also, the straw is hard to clean, especially after a young child eats a cheesy snack and nibbles on the straw.
Lastly, the front compartment is very difficult to open, especially for a young child, so you end up not using that section at all.

Other than these, it's tough, it's cute, and it's a retro look that parents remember all too well. Substitute another bottle, and enjoy.

This is THE lunchbox to get! My six year old son received this as a gift for his first birthday. I didn't think much of it at the time. HA! Little did I know how much we would use this durable and practical lunch box set! I can pack his lunch everyday without one piece of plastic wrap or one plastic baggie! A sandwich fits perfectly in the tray provided and stays fresh and soft until lunch time! Under the sandwich I pack fruit, pretzels or other snacks....again without any plastic wrap or baggy! I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute item for your Thomas fan, but..., January 17, 2002

A friend of mine bought this lunchbox for my son and he loved it as soon as he got it. He's 4 and not in kindergarten yet, so this only gets used from time to time when we go out to lunch, etc. It can also be used to carry along small toys, trains, or whatever. Another reviewer has said hers cracked after it was dropped. I can't really comment too much on that since ours hasn't been dropped (yet). The lunchbox is pretty roomy on the inside and even has a side compartment too! There's a snack box inside with a little tray which basically divides it into two compartments. I usually put a sandwich on top and put other things underneath. The biggest problem with the whole set is the cup that comes with it. It is really cute, but leaks into the lunchbox frequently and is a MAJOR PAIN to clean. There's a little spring loaded straw that pops up when you open the top, and goes back down when you close it. You basically have to disassemble these parts each time you clean it and let them dry, then put the whole thing back together again. I think they could've included a simple thermos or something that would have been much easier to use and clean. My son loves the design of the box, so I would recommend this lunchbox. However, I would leave the cup at home and throw in a juice box or something instead!!

My 3 year old son has this lunchbox and he dropped it and it cracked. It's not very durable. Also, it has a compartment for an ice pack, but didn't come with one. It is very difficult to find an ice pack for the size of the compartment. On a good note, he loves the drinking cup and snack box.

This is a great little lunchbox. My son is a Thomas fanatic and of course loved it right away. I do see a few problems with it- i.e. the images rubbing off. We have only been using the lunchbox for under 3 weeks now (and not everday). I can see a few places where the image is already coming off. I have only hand washed it...and very carefully at that because of the other reviews. I thought somehow I could keep the images from coming off by being extra careful. The other problem for me (and I have a 1st time Kindergartener so I may just be too new to this packing a lunch thing) is that the container that comes with it does not fit things like pudding or applesauce when you leave the sandwich holder in. I love using the sandwich holder and saving on ziplocks, but I'm finding it hard to fit the other stuff inside the lunchbox with it. We haven't used the outside container yet. My son doesn't eat enough to warrant using it. But even so, I wish it were deeper to hold deeper containers of food like fruit or puddings...since they won't fit inside the box with both the thermos and the sandwich container. Overall, it's a great lunchbox. But I am wishing I would have spent less $ on a regular lunchbox w/o the extras so that I could fit all the food in. I have resorted to just sending a juice box on the days I include pudding or applesauce. It just seems like somewhat of a waste to me to have the thermos, but not be able to use it all of the time. The thermos has leaked once...maybe my son just didn't close it tight....but still! I only gave 2 stars for durablility because of the images coming off. It is a very durable plastic lunchbox, but w/o the images it won't be nearly as fun for my son. I may be too picky though because my son loves this lunchbox!!

I purchased both this lunch box, and a similar one offered by the same company, (apparently no longer available,) at the same time, and put both into use on the same day.

We put the sandwich cases and bottles in the dishwasher at least 3 to 4 times a week. As of November 1st, the art on both Thomas products (bottle and sandwich case) is badly scarred and faded, with many areas showing no paint at all. (The white areas were the first to go.) The markings (ballet slippers) on the other lunch box set are unmarred and unchanged. This was disappointing, to say the least. However, it may be our fault, though I do not recall any warnings that these were not dishwasher safe.

However, the lunch box as a whole is rugged and works well. Our children enjoy using them. Just be aware: should you purchase this item, I suggest it be hand-washed only to preserve the art.

This lunch box broke within one week of buying it. The stand on the bottom cracked (can't be fixed) and the thermos broke a week later (totally destroyed). Save your money and buy something else.

Bought this for my 21 month old and actually to make it easier for myself as I now have all his snacks in one place while we are on the run and he just LOVES it. My son is very into being a "big boy" and definitely feels like one with his new Thomas lunchbox. The thermos with straw is just perfect for him as he doesn't drink out of sippy cups and he loves to press the button to pop open the cap. It comes with this AWESOME extra thomas themed tupperware type container with two sections AND it also has a "secret" compartment in the front of the lunchbox. It's very sturdy and has a nice carry handle as well as a very nice latch to keep it closed, we LOVE IT! Can't go wrong with this one AND just one last goodie...when you put it in the dishwasher, the images DO NOT come off...YAY!! Just perfect! Update: I paid $14.00 for this, price JUST went up for the holidays to $19.99 - it will go back down, watch for the sales!

This Thomas Train Lunchbox is GREAT! My three year old son was so excited when he saw it for the first time. It is spacious and well constructed. The compartments are large and there are multiple options for use with each piece. The kids (ages 3-5) in his preschool class went crazy when he brought it to school. It is a one of a kind.

I really like this lunch box set. It's fantastic!!! The sandwich container has a tray inside. A sandwich fits in the bottom of the container and snacks can be placed in the tray compartment. It's perfect. I'm a bit of a Tupperware fanatic, and this lunch box is comparable. The thermos has never leaked. From reading other reviews, I've been only washing this set by hand and it seems to be holding up well.
