UPDATE: I wanted to let everyone know that I did find an o-ring that fits it and it certainly works much better and lasts longer. The size is #29 (1-1/4 x 1-1/8 x 1/16). The rubber is thicker and fits very well and i haven't had an issue with it coming off.

I bought this train for my son who is an absolute Thomas freak. We had it out of the box and he played with it non-stop for a few hours. But, then like everyone else said before, the rubber o-ring pulls off and then the wheels no longer move.

I, too, have reset it many times only to find out it takes less and less time to fall off after it has just been fixed. And, it isn't a hard fix, but you do have to open it up removing several screws each time. It is almost as if each time you stretch it to put it back on it gets a tiny bit bigger and less effective. And, to make matters worse, when it does come off, it gets wrapped in the grease that lubricates the pully and doesn't work as well because there is less friction.

I am going to try to find a replacement o-ring that is much thicker and fits better to see if that works. if not, I will probably trash it because my son gets extremely frustrated each time it stops working, and I am sick of opening it up after only 3 minutes of use.

This would be a great toy if it didn't have this flaw. Please be aware of this prior to purchasing. My son loves it, but it is getting to be too much maintenance.

My 2 year old son likes this toy (and so does my husband, lol) but we have discovered one big flaw. Even if the train and controller are turned off in between uses, the batteries in the train are dead every time we go to play with it. My husband thinks they drain no matter if it's on or not. To be fair, maybe there is some defect in our train that we don't know about. I'll contact the company and see. But as of now we wouldn't recommend it unless you have rechargable AA batteries.
Also, and maybe I'm being nitpicky here, it's a shame that the song just won't continuously play whether going forward or reverse. It goes pretty fast, so there's a lot of forward/backward involved. In a small area, the broken song gets a bit nervewracking.
We are HUGE Thomas fans but this toy misses the mark for us. Gosh, we had such high hopes for it! You could say "This engine causes confusion and delay." (to quote Sir Hatt)

My son LOVES this toy! However, he played with it a grand total of maybe an hour before the pulley slipped off. I opened it up three times to replace the pulley but it continued to slip off within seconds of replacing it. My son has been so upset over this, but I can't see replacing it just to have the same thing happen again.

I bought this gift for a Christmas present for a 2 year old boy. He couldn't stop playing with it. It is very simple to use. He figured out how to move the train backwards and forwards within minutes. After 10 minutes, he figured out how to get to go around in circles. It is very durable. He dropped the remote many times without an issue. The train also got rammed into the walls and didn't stop running. I highly recommend this product for 18-24 month old children.

I bought this as a christmas present for my son. I thought that perhaps it was too babish for him to use. The controls are simple (forward and reverse). However, to my surprise, he loves it. He takes it everywhere. He uses it so much that my husband decided to invest in rechargable batteries.
It doesn't work too well on carpet but we have enough floor space for him to enjoy it. He even takes it when he goes and spends the weekend with Grandma.

My grandson of 2 1/2 yrs just loves Thomas! I bought this remote control Thomas for him for Christmas. Within a few days Thomas was not working right. Come to find out the pulley belt inside of Thomas keeps slipping. We reset it several times, but it keeps slipping off. We have a very unhappy grandson. :(

This was so cute and after my grandson played with it for 10 minutes it quit working. Tried everything but it did not perform.

Bought mine at toys r us for $20.

The funnel light is a small red dot.... not what I expected at all.
It goes straight, or reverse-clockwise.
My kids like it but it frustrates them because of how easy it is to get stuck. The remote wont work after what seems to be about 10-12 feet or so....

For 20 bucks, its a cool toy, as long as your kids have plenty of room. Hardwood floors work well, but not so great on carpet. Maybe our carpet is on the thicker side, but it does not want to go travel on it at all.

They could and should make a better heavier duty version and could easily sell it for about 50 bucks considering everything "thomas" is kinda expensive.

I felt i just had to warn everyone that this toy cost me $20 in my local toys r us, please do not think it's worth the amazon price $70 on 11/15/10. i personally like this toy better than the flashlight thomas. it's very easy to use and it plays a song while moving. I think the battery life is ok i just wish you didn't need a screwdriver to change the batteries! also this won't work on our carpet only kitchen floor, hope this helps!

I returned this toy after only having it a day. After playing with it a matter of minutes, the wheels no longer moved. Come to find out after reading all these reviews that there must be a rubber ring within a pulley that has mis-aligned. If I had known that, I may have tried to fix as my daughter sat in hysterics. My daughter was IN LOVE with this toy. I bought at a discount store who had no others and then tried to find at the local Toys R Us which doesn't carry it. Tempted to go back to the discount store, repurchase and buy the O ring someone mentioned in another comment. Sure do wish I had read these reviews prior to returning!
