I bought this toy for my son. He is 3 years old and absolutely loves it. I think the first reviewer had a defective one because our claw works great. The repair tool is a key part of the set. That is what you use to fix Thomas! This is a great addition to our Thomas collection.

It looks nice, but the 'claw' doesn't grab or release very well, making for a lot of frustrated cries
for help from my child. I may have a lemon, dunno. There is also a noise-making tool to 'fix' the
train that gets pretty obnoxious. With Thomas toys simpler is better, IMO.

This was a birthday gift for my son. He was so excited to get it and help set it up. However, like a lot of toys, the commercial we saw on the DVD was way more cool than the actual toy. The grabber is difficult to operate and the motion is repetitive so it gets boring really fast. My older son can help fix the toy when it gets stuck, but he doesn't like Thomas much any more so it is useless for the age group it is intended for.

My 20 month old is all into Thomas at the moment so got this as a X-mmas gift. After his naps he points to it & goes to play with it all the time. He does not know how to operate the claw completely but he is getting the hang of it. He presses on it & and tries to pick up the tunnel cage form point A to B. It gets loud but that's ok as long as he is leanring & enjoying. But hs knows to flip the swithces on the tracks for thomas to go. Overall for $25 it's a decent buy & it comes with a thomas train, that alone would cost $15.

The claw doesn't work very well. It takes my kids like 5 minutes of trying over and over to get the claw to clap. My kids love the idea of fixing the train but get so frustrated tying to get it to work. Even myself and the wife have to spend 10-20 trys to get the darn thing to work.

I paid $20 so it was a great price for the tracks and train, but not worth the frustration. I wish it would work the way it should.

This is a big set, no doubt about it, and it is awesome fun for me and my 3 year old to play with. The claw works well, and the cage to hold the trains is very nicely designed. In fact, the whole set has some very nice design components from an engineering perspective: ramps, claw, release levers/buttons, triggers, gears, etc. I tested the red cage, which has rubber grips to hold trains, and it works for our plastic trains AS WELL AS the wooden trains, even though the wooden trains are a bit smaller. (there is an included list of the plastic trains/cars that are not compatible with this set). The little watch battery operated welder makes a cool sound when you are "repairing the trains" - batteries are included. The only thing missing is an adapter for this set to be compatible with the old TOMY blue track sets. There is none in this set, and you will have to go buy this additional piece. The building could be made a little sturdier with a harder plastic and not use cardboard for two of the walls (which are optional to put in).

Overall, really impressive set: pretty big, lots of fun.

I bought this for my son who is very keen on Thomas the Tank Engine. The instructions are easy to follow and the set was put together in 15 minutes. It feels very sturdy. My son has been totally absorbed with it ever since we opened the box.

My kid just got this and loves it. Fits perfectly with his other trackmaster sets. Some of the trackmaster sets are dinky but this one has lots of fun built into it. Thumbs up from Logan!

I bought this for my 4 yr old son. He loves Thomas and probably so far has so many Thomas & Friends toys (spoiled! yeah I know). He has been asking for this since he saw it in one of Thomas DVD's "Hero fo the Rail" and eventually got this along with "Hiro" train. He absolutely loves it and it's actually fun playing with. Yes, I've played with the toy along with my son and it's pretty cool. However, I am quite disappointed that this is made of plastic. Given that the structure is in plastic, but can't believe even the Thomas the train and rails included in this package is in plastic! What happened to wooden trains and rails? When did HIT Entertainment change its product specification from wood to plastics? Another desperate way to cut costs after that lead paint incident? There are so many Thomas toys, and I expect, at least, ones from authorized makers to coordinate that they all work/link together. In this case, this product doesn't really link up with other wooden rails, which is pathetic. Given consumers are paying almost $50, in addition to those overpriced other trains, we should and DO expect these toys to maintain the quality and safety, not to mention be able to play all them together. I am ok with them coming up with new ones forever so parents cuff up more and more, but at least expect to get our money's worth. Wouldn't you agree? So sad....
