We have a collection of Thomas and Brio trains and track, and use this playboard on a table that we built. While it is impossible to actually construct track that stays on "dry land" (some of the playboard scenery is rivers etc) this background scenery does add to our enjoyment of the playing with trains. The whole family (ages 1 to 30-something) enjoys constructing new layouts.

This board can easily be damaged in transit. Our second attempt was successful. I advise you to order this well before you need it.

NOTE: We've had this for 4 years or so now. The plastic coating has all peeled off. It still looks nice though and is being used by another toddler now. When we bought this, it was the only good option for playing with trains; now there are so many basic playtables that could be used for a multitude of activities (puzzles, cars, blocks) - that I would buy something more versatile rather than this train themed tabletop.

We just received this playboard a couple of days ago. My son loves it! He is almost 2 and really enjoys playing with all of his Thomas trains. This playboard makes playing more interesting. It arrived in fine condition...we didn't have the problem the other reviewer had. My son has a train table (not the Thomas one) and it fits perfectly. The playboard is a great addition to our Thomas the Tank Engine collection.

I umm and aahh about spending this sort of money on a train table and playboard for my children but after doing my homework I decided this is the one I would buy.

Other train tables I have seen in stores are often wonky and seem quite unstable - and this is after they've been played on in the stores. So after seeing poorer quality tables for similar prices I decided to save up for the Thomas branded one and this single sided playboard.

Yes, it's expensive, but as with any "brand", it's the name you are paying for. If you want a Thomas collection of trains and accessories you are going to have to pay. I'm just starting our collection and am buying the "Thomas" trains and buildings, but found a compatible generic track for less than half the price. I was lucky enough to get this playboard at almost half price at a after Christmas sale. It's worth waiting for sales and price comparing.

It's beautifully painted and when used with the table frame is extremely strong (although I wouldn't recommend standing on it).

It's up to you to spend to decide if you want to spend this sort of money but I see this as something I won't ever have to replace and it's something my son can keep for his children. Toys like this will last!

This playboard is fine. It looks nice, is sturdy and, according to other reviewers, seems to do well over time. Prospective buyers should be aware, however, that the "Product Dimensions" as given on this page are actually the dimensions of the box the playboard is delivered in. The real product dimensions are 48" x 32". Unfortunately, I built a table for the dimensions as given thinking the "product" dimensions were actually the measurements of the "product," i.e., the playboard itself. Nope. Now my sons have a some extra room around the border, which isn't all bad, but I thought you should know.

This is one of the best investments we have made. It cleans up great. Actually last month my son decided to use a pen to this table top and the Mr Clean bar got it out. My son loves this and plays with it w/ everything. Thomas, Matchbox & Lego's. I would recommend it to anyone. Watch for the deal Toys r us has though... when you buy the table, you get the top free. Thats the BEST deal!

I bought this play board for a train table that I built for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. The play board arrived with multiple scratches and several dents around the edges. The worst problem was that the board was warped approximately 1/2 inch and would not lay flat on the table. I thought that for $60 this would be something more than a laminated scene over press board. I would have returned it but did not want to disappoint my grandson. The cosmetic defects did not bother him.

We bought this to go with the Island of Sodor train table. It's great! Our son loves it. He lines up his trains and cars on it, and even brought over a boat to sail on the water. It's a nice, thick, sturdy piece. He's been using blocks, cars, trains, as well as the train tracks on it. It's a great background for his many adventures.

This is an excellent table top for the Thomas and Friends table. I know it will last for years because my parents have the same one that is around 10 yrs old & still in great condition - even with our 2 & 3 year olds climbing on it constantly. Fast shipping.

The Thomas table wouldn't be a 'table' without it. The boy has played with it plenty since Christmas. We have no complaints at this point.

Was very pleased on how quickly the item shipped to us....my husband was in the process of building a train table for our 2 yr. old grandson who loves his Thomas the train(s). We needed to go ahead and get the tabletop to make sure our building dimensions were correct before he started building the table. It turned out perfect! He built a gorgeous table that our grandson absolutely loves!
