My son received this for his third birthday. We had to help him assemble the track, but he loves running the train on and around it. It is child-powered (vs. battery) which is great for exploration and imagination. The set is wood and very durable. Additional pieces can be added, and it appears we just started a collection.

I bought this set for my grandkids (2,3 & 5 yrs old) to play with at my house. Had to help put it together, but the rest of the time - pure fun. The playful imagination was wonderful. The only concern was with the bridge - little hands had trouble getting the trains through the passage and had to keep putting on the top bridge piece. Would definitely recommend the expansion set. Wonderful starter set to see how your little ones will enjoy Thomas and then expand from there. Also, great beginning cost value compared with other larger sets.

The Thomas the Tank wooden train toys and the Brio toys can be very expensive. This set is an affordable, good beginner set. It is perfect for a young child interested in trains. It can be set up in about 3 different configurations. And it is expandable, as your child's interest in trains continues.

My son just loves this train; therefore, it gets 5 stars for "fun". It stimulates his imagination, so I give it high marks for "educational value". Finally, as a wooden toy, it is very durable. It can stand up to my 2 year old son throwing the pieces around.

My 2&1/2 year old son has become completely enamored with Thomas over the past six months. Prior to that it was just trains in general. By watching the Thomas videos and reading the books the trains were brought to life. So when we saw this relatively inexpensive track available - complete with three trains- we had to buy it for him. It is a great investment. He can spend hours playing with it, expanding his imagination while at the same time increasing his fine-motor skills. With all of the expansion packs available, plus the bigger sets, we know we will be able to expand the tracks for years to come! We are already looking ahead to Christmas for more "Thomas" options. But this one is an unbeatable value for a beginner set for the young Thomas, or trains in general, lover.

We recently purchased this set for our almost three-year-old. He is a big Thomas fan and just loves it. While watching his Thomas videos or on his own, he uses it to act out stories he has seen or creates new ones. With all the additional pieces that we can gradually add, this is a toy that will be played with for many years to come.

We bought this set for my 2 year old son several months ago, and he has enjoyed this set over any other toy...EVER. He plays with the trains and the tracks for hours and hours. He loves to rebuild the track in his own designs. My son knows the names of every train (engine) and can't wait to get more pieces. This set is worth every penny!

This was a gift for my one year old son's first birthday. He played with it all day. He would remove a few parts every now and then. But now he is 1 1/2 and can play for hours. He has the Thomas the train DVD. We are going to buy the add on for his second birthday. We give it 5 stars!

My 2 year old hasn't stopped playing with the starter set that the 4 year old got for Christmas. Searched long and hard for a "cute" set for his birthday. It has been a huge hit! He loves putting the track together in random patterns, but Mommy has to construct the recommended layout. Adorable and entertaining! Both the 4 year old and 2 year old are having a blast with it when they decide to play nice and share. Top of bridge comes off a little too easy, but other than that we are completely pleased with our choice. I personally am not attracted to Thomas the Train, but this set was adorable! Would highly recommend.

Excellent gift for 3 year old child. Sturdy. Classic. Also has enough extras to make it very interesting.

We bought this for our 4 year-old son for Christmas. He is a big Thomas fan and loves to play with his trains. His two year-old sister also enjoys playing with the set. It is fun to watch him use his imagination to act out stories as he plays with the trains. A friend of mine visited with her 7 year-old son and he enjoyed playing with it too.

What really amazed me though was watching my 58 year-old father playing with the set after the kids went to bed! I must confess that I enjoy designing layouts for the tracks too.
