3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but lacks quality
Ok, I like Thomas and Friends as much as the next guy, but the prices do not reflect quality.

Essentially, Lady is a plastic toy with a wooden block in the center. The painted surfaces of the wood appear strong, but the pain on the plastic parts rub away without much effort. Now, Lady is sitting on her track with one eyebrow ':)

Questionable...

The Thomas train and train collections are durable toys. Their real value, though, is that playing with the toys allows children to act out the great Thomas and Friends children's stories they read and watch.

The only problem--if you can call it that--is that you can't just buy one! Your kids will want more and more. These are the most played with toys our son has. The characters are his friends, and we tell stories with Thomas, James, Gordon, and the rest of the gang.

Lady only appears in the Thomas and the Magic Railroad movie. But she is an important character, and the kids adore her. My own three-year old son was so overcome with excitement at the sight of Lady that for a long time he couldn't watch her when she first appeared on-screen and wouldn't play with her when we initially bought him this toy. She is magical, and kids pick up on that. THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL PIECE IF YOUR CHILD HAS SEEN THE THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD MOVIE. Note that durability is an issue: the smokestack is very thin at the bottom and can easily snap off.

Purchasing recommendation:
* Choose which type of Thomas trains you will 'standardize' on. There are three kinds: This size of wooden trains from Learning Curve; larger, plastic, battery-operated trains from Tomy; and smaller, die-cast metal trains from Ertl. The wooden trains have the most products and accessories available.

* The clickety-clack (grooved to look like real railroad) track in the Thomas series is great, but it's expensive; I recommend buying generic track. ... You can literally save hundreds of dollars by buying these kinds of sets.

* Buy the Thomas and friends engines separately--and wait for sales. The kids care about the characters, so no short-cutting (ie., Brio or generic trains) here.

* Look for trains bundled with VHS videos. You can get a video and a train (on sale) for about the same price as a train alone.

I was really disapointed when I found my Lady's paint chipped off in most places. We need a new one now and that's a bummer becase I have at least 70 thomas trains and most of them survived pretty well .

Can't say enough good about the Thomas trains. My husband and I just love them. I am so much happier when my son plays with these then some elctronic gizmo. He uses his imagination and reasoning and building skills. He makes different track set ups and makes up stories about the trains. They're just great and durable. The only problem is the paint does tend to wear around the corners on the most loved choo-choos. You can tell these are played with.

This train is probably one of the best contructed of the series.
If your little one has seen the movie "Thomas and the Magic Railroad". Then "Lady" is a must have to his or her collection.
My son loves recreating scenes from the movie with Lady, Dessel, Thomas and the others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the little sister!, January 8, 2003

My son has an extensive thomas collection and his little sister is always "messing things up". It was his idea to buy this for her for Christmas. Now when she goes into his room to mess up his track, he gets out lady, builds her a simple circle track and lets her play with her own train next to him. It has worked like a charm....no more "mom, she's tearing up my tracks"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Attractive, July 20, 2006
This review is from: Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Lady (Toy)
Lady is the beautiful magenta engine with gold trimming who holds the key to the secret of the Magic Railroad. If you've seen the movie Thomas and The Magic Railroad featuring Peter Fonda and Alec Baldwin, you'll be familiar with this charming Lady.

Lady is a straightforward engine (meaning, she doesn't have any moveable parts), but she is attractive. Although my son asked for her, he doesn't take her out much for some reason! (He has dozens of the trains for the wooden tracks--and even has a die cast Lady. He *did* play the diecast version to death, though, wearing off her paint job!)

If your little one loves the Thomas movie and seems enthralled by Lady, it will likely be a welcome addition to the collection. You may want to pick up Diesel with Pinchy, though, so your child can replay the scene in the movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars A *girly* train for my little girl, November 27, 2011
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Lady (Toy)
I bought Lady for my little girl who loves to play trains with her brothers. She has enjoyed playing with Lady and even carried her around everywhere at first. It's been almost a year since we bought her and I have not noticed any problems with the paint or anything breaking.

For those that are looking for other girly trains, the ones I've found so far (for the metal Take Along/Take & Play series) are:

*Lady (Maroon w/Gold, Black, and White)
*Rosie (A Pinky Purple with black, gray, and red accents)- we own this one and it is another favorite
*Belle (Saphire type Blue with some redish accents on hose nozzles)
*Emily (Deep Grass Green with Brown, Black, and Gray accents)

My two year old little girl is obsessed with anything Thomas. She really enjoys playing with Lady (besides her favorite Belle). I think Lady is adorable...she is little but really cute. My daughter loves that she is a pinkish color with the gold and is "magic." Great little train for boys and girls!

Hat's off to Learning Curve for providing many of the engines from the Thomas and Friends series. My 3 and 4 year old daughters can name almost 20 of the engines in tis series and they actually LOVE the girl engines like Lady. Same good quality as the other Thomas engines. If your child is into Thomas, don't get the plastic knock-offs get the real deal wood toys. . .
