5.0 out of 5 stars My Son Wanted This For Months!
My son first spotted the Mountain Overpass at a Barnes and Noble earlier this year. At $40.00 a pop, we told him he'd have to wait until his birthday (September) or Christmas to receive it.

Every once in awhile, I'd ask him what he wanted for his birthday just to see if he remembered the item...and by golly, he did!

The neatest thing about this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great for push cars, but no good for battery powered
The battery powered trains slip and slide going up the ramps. Very disappointing. I switched the ramps for my son with Brio track and the trains do a bit better. Have to set an incline with normal straight track going into the ramp for it to work.

Other than that is is well built, but a bit too loud.

The neatest thing about this Mountain Overpass is that the magnets on the train trigger sound effects. Trains and vehicles going *under* the tunnel trigger 3 different sets of sounds, while those going *over* the tunnel trigger another 3 sets of sounds (6 total). Of course, a child can activate the sounds by simply pushing a red button, but it's neat to see the delight on their faces when the train movement *itself* triggers the sound.

The Mountain Overpass is quite heavy and sturday, and also comes with 2 wooden extensions which connect to other wooden railway tracks.

My son has been playing with his Mountain Overpass ever since he received it for his birthday last week, and I know he has many more hours of fun ahead of him with this interactive sound adventure!

this is a wonderful addition to a child's thomas train set - the sounds are not annoying like other toys - it is very durable (it has been thrown many times by my younger toddler) - and it isn't big and bulky so it doesn't take up much room on the train table.

Zackaree just got this for his 4th birthday and I have to say, it's a toss up between him and his 20 month old brother as to which likes it more. Noah, within 5 minutes had totally mastered all the sounds and was in train heaven! This is a toy that will be a hit in any house, no matter how big the kid is!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite and Focal Point, January 23, 2005
This review is from: Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Mountain Overpass (Toy)
Of all the Thomas assessories this is the one most played with by my grand children. They love to hear the sounds and have one at our house over a year and sounds are still loud and clear after hours and hours of use. Even our 1 year old delights in pushing trains thru the tunnel or over the top to hear the train sounds. Just purchased another for grand children to use at home. This is a must for all Thomas train owners and will be the focal point of much of their train play.

I just got this for my son Preston (just turned 4). I think that he likes this part of his Thomas set the best! As I write this he is playing with this piece. I think he is loves that it makes 6 different sounds. (three roadway sounds and three train sounds) This product comes highly recommended. Sure to thrill!

I can't say enough about this overpass. My son is crazy about it and financially speaking, I love that it is a bridge and tunnel in one. It is a very versatile component and will be a great addition to any train lovers set. My son has even memorized the pattern of the noises it makes, which amazed me since he is only a little over two years old. If he can have this much fun and keep his mind working, I am happy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice addition for Thomas admirers, January 6, 2005

We really like this pricey addition to the Thomas line. Besides making 6 fun sounds it has a number of cool features that we appreciate. First, it is really solid in a way that the bridge in the original track set wasn't. The original bridge was hard for our almost three year-old to deal with. It required getting the supports just right and if you knock it even a bit, the whole structure would topple over. Bummer and a source of constant frustration for our son. (I'd hear this roar from the playroom.) This over/underpass, on the other hand, stays put.

In addition, it makes 6 fun sounds and even better, it has an OFF switch on the underside! A definite feature for parents.

We highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amuse the little one for hours!, November 23, 2004
This review is from: Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Mountain Overpass (Toy)
We actually bought the Mountain Overpass Set (it's about $80), and I would actually suggest just buying the Overpass addition alone. The set comes with primarily street play tracks - not the grooved ones - which don't grip the trains as well, especially the battery powered trains. Although the set is an overall better value, since it comes with tons of tracks (lots a great small curves), two trains (Percy and Butch) and a bunch of accessories. It just doesn't work well with the battery operated trains.

Overall, this Overpass is fantastic! My son loves the various sounds it makes when the trains go over the pass or through the tunnel. He sits there forever running the trains through it!

Thomas toys are expensive, but well worth it, especially if you're on your first child and plan to have more. My son is crazy about his "choo choo"s - and he's learned to refine his fine motor skills putting the tracks together.

Thomas is also great for other people who need to buy your child a gift, because instead of some random (potentially unsafe toy), you can just tell them to a buy a train or accessory - and your child is sure to love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to our track., May 7, 2008

To echo another reviewer, I too must have missed that the top of the mountain is intended to be a roadway. At first I was disappointed, but I converted it to a train track by simply adding track to it...duh. So as it does make CAR/TRUCK noises, I'm still more pleased with it as a TRAIN track, as is my son!
This mountain overpass is our only sights and sounds Thomas toy as our intention was for Thomas to be a creative manipulative set, for now. I must say that it's noise, all be it loud, is the draw to the mountain. My son LOVES the 6 noises and will run his trains over or through this mountain continuously!
I'm pleased with this addition and all the creative options it allows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, November 8, 2007
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Mountain Overpass (Toy)
My son loves it very much. I guess, the sound of the cars and the trains is really attractive to him. Anyway, it's really good toy.

But one thing I would mention(maybe this is useful for some beginning users like us): the top track is for cars, not for trains. When I order it, I didn't pay attention to it. After we got the toy, I found it. We don't have many pieces of car tracks, so probably we need to buy some additional car tracks to make it fully functional. So to me, if I know it before I order, I would order the set instead of this overpass only. But, this is not affecting to rate this toy to 5 stars, because the toy is really good, it's kind of user's error:)
