In general I think the Thomas wooden trains are fantastic. My 3 year old loves them and plays for hours. He makes up stories or acts out the stories from the videos, he carries different trains around with him on outings. They're his toys & his security blanket. However, not crazy about Terrence, the rubber tires came off about 1/2 hour after opening the box. This is the only one that I have had trouble with. Fortunately Terrece can now be played with ont he train tracks instead of off-track but my son still asks for his "wheels" (which I threw away).

problems with Terence resolved,

Terence is my two year old son's favorite train from the the Thomas books. We bought him the wooden Terence from a local toy store, only to discover that his treads came off about thirty seconds after he came out of the box. This was a real pain - I put the treads away and let my son use Terence like a regular train, which he didn't mind too much but it was a bit upsetting to pay ten dollars for a toy and then have it be poor in quality.A few days later, we were at a different toy store and saw that Terence had been redesigned! Unfortunately, the store we had bought him from doesn't do refunds, only exchanges. I went home and called Learning Curve's 800 number, and a very nice customer service lady gave me an address and told me that they would replace my son's Terence with the new one. I mailed him back, got the new one in a few weeks, and he's GREAT. The treads don't come off, he rolls on plain table, track, and even the carpet wonderfully. My son was very happy as he had wondered what happened to his old Terence. Learning Curve has a lifetime garuntee on all their products so if you have the old Terence I reccommend giving them a call and they will let you exchange it for a new one (even if you bought it three years ago!).

My three year old son wanted this train specifically because the treads or tires as he calls them were removable. I understand this might not be a good thing if your child likes to put things in his/her mouth (fortunately my son does not) however, it does work on the track without the treads (Terence does have a magnet in the back). My son loves to take the treads off and use the train on the track to pull the other trains. He puts the treads back on and uses Terence outside the track. He loves the orange color and thinks it's a pretty neat train. I don't particularly find this toy as educational but it is fun and works great with his train set.

We love all of our Thomas wooden trains, but Terrence was a letdown. His special caterpillar treads are the thing that make him desirable, but they come off very easily and he doesn't move so well (especially on carpet) when he's got them on. My son was three when we got Terrence and although for a child that age he was fairly good at small motor tasks, he couldn't get the treads back on by himself. I spent a lot of time fussing with them. We eventually threw the treads away (about the time our baby learned to crawl--they seemed like a choking hazard) and we use Terrence without them now. While he works fine with regular wheels, the "point" of Terrence is his caterpillars. I was disappointed in this toy.

The one i bought for my 3 year old son the rubber treads caused lots of frustration. I finally threw them away! They had hardened and would not roll at all. a real PITA. Also annoys my son that he fits on the track but lacks a magnet to connect with the train cars. Yes i know he isn't a train but to a 3 year old if it fits on the track he should have the magnets to work with the train cars.

I purchased this for my 3 year old son and no sooner than we had taken him out of the box and ran it on the table the treads came off. I am constantly looking for the treads, or fixing them. All the other Thomas toys we have are great, but Terrance doesn't seem as durable as the others, thus making this toy in my opinion a flop.

Learning curve customer service is pretty rude,

We got this last night and like everyone else has said, the treads come off almost instantly. I was excited that a previous review said these items have a lifetime guarantee and that if you called Learning Curve's 800 number they would replace it. So, I called them up and the girl who answered was very rude and told me that they couldn't do anything unless it's a manufacturing defect. She said I should take it back to the store I bought it from and get a new one. I told her I bought it from Costco and that they would only have the same kind (the previous reviewer had said they came out with a newer version of Terrence that solved the tread problem). I told her about the newer version and she said in her abrubt and rude manner that as a one time courtesy they could replace it. I looked on their web site and they say they only have a 90 day warranty for manufacturing defects (not normal use etc). Maybe they changed their policy, but I would think twice before purchasing this particular train.

If it was not so much of a hassle, I would have returned this toy. It is much smaller than the picture looks and the wheels comes off all the time. It should retail for about ....Other than this toy, my on-line buying experience has been great

He is not a train, he's a tractor,
This review is from: Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Terence The Tractor (Toy)
I have the new designed model and the treads don't come off. He is not a train and is not meant to run on the track, the road maybe, but more for "off-road". My son likes him, just get the newly designed type.

Well, I bought Terrence a long time ago. As soon as he was taken out of his box, his treads were off. After spending numerous hours looking for them, I decided to leave them off & put them in a safe place. That's the best thing that one can do. Besides, it's really no fun to have a Thomas train that you can't use with the others. So, take my advice, just take the treads off as soon as you take him out of the box. Good luck!
