It works best over rough terrain,

The other review says it is hard to pull them across the wacky track. This is true. However this wacky track works really well when you are attempting to build a track on the floor and over a rug. It is the only track that deals well with rugs or other things that make the terrain less than perfectly flat. Also I would say its well made becuase there is a steel cable connecting all the pieces.
Finally this track is a very good "problem solver" when you can't quite get all the track to fit together putting this Wacky track down can really save the day. IMHO it is rather expensive.

I got this for my 3-year-old nephew for Christmas because he loves building tracks for his trains! It's a great piece for trying to attach two pieces that might be hard to connect otherwise, like a tighter turn or just something that's doesn't fit well with standard curve pieces. When he and I play together, I've found that unless you're trying to pull trains around the track really fast or have a very long train, the trains seem to go just fine and the wheels don't derail. I haven't seen my nephew try Gordon (the motorized one) on the wacky tracks, but Gordon doesn't always work that well on regular tracks either. For what it is (two tracks) it's on the expensive side, but that's nothing new for Thomas stuff.

Wacky Tracks - Rarely Used,

The trains and cars don't stay on these tracks well. We rarely ever use them. I would not purchse these. My son loves pulling them out but gets frustrated when they don't work well.

We've never had any of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. My daughters, ages 2 and 5, love being able to create a railroad without having to ask Mom and/or Dad to help fit the last two pieces together. There is no more worrying about which curved track to put in. The wacky tracks easily bend to make everything fit perfectly together every time! This might have been a pricey little piece for their train set but it has turned my frustrated drama queens into confident engineers.

My 5 year old train-addict got this for Christmas. Half-way through January one of them fell apart beyond repair. All the pieces came off like beads on a string. Very disappointing for such an expensive piece.

Others have said these tracks are fun, or that the cars fall off them easily. The way my son runs his trains, they always fall off - no matter what. Accidents happen is his favorite Thomas song.
These tracks have the added bonus of allowing him to complete a circuit track more easily. The piece allows for sharper or gentler curves to close the circle, and makes it easier for him to make a complex complete course by himself. Which is why I love it. It does not bend as much as he would wish, but it is less frustrating than having all solid pieces around. Just my opinion. (*)>

Good for joining tracks when nothing else will fit ... but longer trains generally will not stay on these tracks.

I purchased two of these sets about 10 years ago. They have gone through four very rough and tumble train enthusiasts. They have held up perfectly. The wacky track helps my 3 year old make his crazy designs actually connect. We've never had a problem with trains derailing unless the train was quite long (this goes for any curved pieces). These truly are a must have. They have been worth every penny.

I bought these tracks for my 3 years old. He loves them because they're different than the other tracks, but to be honest I think the adults enjoy it even more! Me, his father, or his sitters, could spend hours building crazy complicated railway, these just gave us much more design possibilities. These tracks are not so good for battery operated trains, they fall off the tracks most of the time, but my son and his playmates prefer to operate the regular wooden trains themselves anyway. No complaint about durability, we have it for over a month with daily use sometime not so gentle, my son likes to yank them when it's time to clean up, and they're still intact.
This wacky track and Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Adapt-a-Track (2 pieces) is all what we need to connect 3 different railway sets easily!

My grandson LOVES his wacky tracks! They're the first tracks he pulls out of the box because they're so versatile....which makes them more practical than wacky, in my opinion. In fact, I plan to get more in the near future.
