I am working on the genealogy of my families. I am a GILLETTE, so hope to make some connection to these folks. I do have Virginia roots about 3 or 4 generations back. I also have a relative who has HERN ancestry... with connections to GILLETTE.

The Farm Book is very interesting reading. I also have "Free Some Day." My HERN relative married my mother's brother, so I have known her for 70+ years as my aunt by marriage. Then a few years ago she whispered that "They always told us we were kin to the Gillettes." My first time ever hearing any hint of that. Now these two books are helping me make sense of that remark.

She died this past January at age 94 and I am thankful that in the not too distant past she gave me that vital information. All of my ancestors (including both parents) were deceased long before I began genealogy, so I would not have had this information otherwise.

Melvyn Gilllette
