The Step into Reading series has be very good for our 3 year old grandson. The text is not too difficult and the pictures make the reading even easier.

This is based on the preschool show Thomas and Friends.I currently read it to my 2 year old and I enjoy the simple vocabulary but the longer storyline over board books. I enjoyed this book up until the last 2 pages. The last two pages state "Gordon may not be a jet engine... but he is full of hot air." I have not seen the episode this book is likely based on but in the...

I got this as a reward for a kindergartener who achieved a goal, along with the Brio-compatible train. Cute, and he really liked it. The story is very easy, with a lot of sound words -- peep, whoosh, zoom.

It is a cute, short book perfect for emerging readers. As with all "Step 1" books, it is not text-heavy and is simple to follow. The words are not all easy phonetic words though so it is better for kids who are able to use more complex deciphering. The story features the Thomas taking a crazy ride thanks to an accidental coupling with a jet engine and he quickly (pun intended) becomes the fastest train in Sodor. What fun! Besides, who doesn't love Thomas?? :)

I enjoyed this book up until the last 2 pages. The last two pages state "Gordon may not be a jet engine... but he is full of hot air." I have not seen the episode this book is likely based on but in the book there is no real interaction between Gordon and Thomas, certainly none that could possible justify making fun of Gordon in such a disrespectful tone. I would caution parents of young children before buying this as it's just the type of like a 2 year old will pick up and use.
