Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Whether he is painting tranquil, small-town America, thatched cottages, flower-drenched gardens or bustling cities, Northern California painter Kinkade suffuses his canvases with a subtly ethereal light. This mysterious light is the unifying force in appealing pictures that reaffirm hope, beauty and a sense of life's possibilities. In an informal autobiographical essay accompanying 120 color plates, Kinkade discusses his boyhood, his happy marriage and his Christian faith, and states that his goal as an artist is to create glimpses of a peaceful world "full of the beauty of God's creation." Yet, people of any or no faith will be intrigued and touched by his gently healing paintings, at once secular and transcendent. In her short closing essay, California art critic Reed places Kinkade's meticulously crafted paintings in the pleinairist tradition of direct observation of nature.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thomas Kinkade: Paintings of Radiant Light (Hardcover)
I recently received this book in my home and was just totally mesmerized by the beautiful artwork; I couldn't put the book down. You could not possibly pick a favorite amongst his works; I just love them all. To me personally, his works make me appreciate God's beauty all around us, gives me a calming feeling when I am hit by hard times which I am personally going through now, and I could just go on and on about this magnificant painter! Whenever I feel sad or upset about something, I just look at this works and a smile comes across my face, making me feel like things will get better and everything is all right with the world! I highly recommend anything by this man! You will never regret purchasing anything by him. It is definitely money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Glow of Thomas Kinkade's World, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Thomas Kinkade: Paintings of Radiant Light (Hardcover)
"I desire to create paintings that bring hope and joy to others, and light is my tool for doing that. I see light as the symbol for the joy in my heart. Perhaps my work will in some small way communicate that joy." ~ Thomas Kinkade ~

Thomas Kinkade, also known as the "Painter of Light" or "The Guy Who Paints Light," is probably the only American contemporary artist who in all of his paintings in this inspirational book can capture light in its utmost splendor. As I turn the pages of "Paintings of Radiant Light," I can't help but admire an artist whose works depict not only his life story, but also his adventures, and most of all his profound Christian faith. The book also boasts an interesting fifteen-page mini autobiography titled "The Artist and His World" that reveals his life and art, the apprenticeship from his revered mentors, his own personal credo, an artist coming of age, finding love and God, the birth of his company, and his family values.

His works, which entails varied scenes of American life, speak warmth, depth and eternal beauty. Some of the full-color reproductions are sceneries from the cities of light such as Placerville, Carmel-by-the-Sea, San Francisco, Boston, New York and Paris; remarkable depictions of sugar and spice cottages, secret gardens, sweetheart hideaway, majestic streams and living waters, countryside churches, family traditions, and Christmas memories - all with corresponding descriptions and fascinating personal accounts behind his works in his own words.

From among his works in this book, I especially loved "The Garden of Promise" which comes with his personal reflections and I quote:

"There is a garden, a place of peace promised to each one of us, and the gate lies open to those who wish to come in. My prayer is that my portrayal of "The Garden of Promise" will remind many of us this hope that lies ahead. As one anonymous chorus puts it:"

"Beyond the gate will peace await
And joy to fill each heart
A fragrant bower every hour
And love that never parts"

This book is a marvelous work of art that you will surely cherish. It is filled with everlasting charms of the old-world that makes you want to be transported back in time. For more of Thomas Kinkade's notable works, please check out Thomas Kinkade: Masterworks of Light and Simpler Times.

A collector's item and a treasure.
