sir thomas would love this !, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Thomas Lawrence: Complete Edition of the Paintings (Hardcover)
sir thomas lawrence is one of my favorite artists of late 18th,early 19th century. when i was a child,i had a print of his most (well known)work,"pinkie". i was fascinated by the girl in the picture frame and always wondered about her. it was many years later ,i was to discover that, her name was sarah barrett moulton and the painting was by sir thomas lawrence... he was able to capture the personality of his subjects so well,it is almost like a photograph.
this book covers it all. it has a small biography of the artist's life in the front pages of the book. the rest is a FULLY illustrated gallery of his finest works. some are in color but, most are black and white. the sitters are listed in order by name-a to z. each one lists the sitters, name(s),year of birth and death, small bio of that person and a provenance of each,in other words, the history of where the painting ended up over time.
this is a definite read for fans of lawrence. it is just a great book! it is worthwhile and a tribute to the genius of sir thomas lawrence.
