** 2011 Update ** After two years with the lamps we went to wipe them with a damp wash cloth instead of just dry rag dusting them (they had some kitchen splatter on them). Much to our surprise, the off-white coloring or tint on the glass shades came right off with the plain water on a cloth. Even odder, on one shade the linen-like texture paint came off too, while on the other shade that part stayed on. Seems like it was painted on top of the coloring on one shade but was painted on before the coloring on the other.

We still like the lamps but will need to get new shades now. Otherwise the construction and appearance of the lamps is very good (see the original review below) but I have knocked it down to two stars from four for having a finish on the shades that was water soluble.

The original 2009 review:
We put two of these over our kitchen island and are very happy with them. The down rod comes in two 12" and two 6" sections so you have flexibility in the length.

The shade is slightly off white and has painted lines reminiscent of fabric or lace. IMO it is much prettier than plain frosted glass shades. There is a little play in the shade and it takes a little fooling to get it level.

The finish on the metal is slightly darker but goes well with our "rubbed bronze" cabinet hardware. There is a chain link at the top of the down rod that hangs from the included plate so it can hang from any angle ceiling, or there is a coupling you can use when hanging from a flat ceiling and do not want the chain at the top.
