We got this last year when my son was four and he couldn't get enough of it. It's easy to play and a lot of fun. We are still playing it. Even little brother (age 2) plays (with help from mom). You spin the spinner and go where it tells you to, then pick a card to tell you where to go next. It's all pictures, no words or numbers, so it's easy for preschoolers to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Complicated set-up doesn't match age level
My son loves Thomas and likes this game, but mostly because he loves the Thomas characters. The game is hard to set up: 6 trains that go to 3 different locations on the board, 8 piles of 4 small token cards. This complicated set up isn't appropriate for the age level that this game is for (and I would be surprised if any child over 5 sustained an interest in this...

The object is to collect enough magic gold dust to get to the magic track before Diesel. He loves to save Lady before Diesel gets her.

After playing some other games that are on the market for young children, parents will welcome this refreshing change. Rather than being simply another "roll the dice and move forward" game (which can get monotonous) - this one has a couple "twists" where hidden track pieces must be found before ANYONE can win - and if "Diesel 10" advances faster than the players can collect the required tracks/gold dust - EVERYONE loses. Even my husband doesn't groan when my son pulls this one out. A worthwhile buy !

This is a great tool for Thomas enthusiasts. It teaches good skills such as turn taking, not always winning, (sometimes Diesel wins...not even one of the players), and adherance to rules. Child follows picture clues. My son is thrilled to be holding the gold dust and helping Lady!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Game for the Kids, March 31, 2003

My son picked out this game as a souvenier after visiting a train museum. Before the weekend was out we had already gotten our money's worth. Especially nice is the twist where Deisel 10 wins, helping my son learn how to be a gracious non-winner when playing a game. After the adults have had their fill, which is always long before my son does, he then plays with the pieces and the gameboard reenacting Thomas stories he has seen or made up. It's not challenging for adults, but then again it is made for kids. Keeping that in mind it is a great game for Thomas lovers.

My 3 year old is a big Thomas fan and absolutely loves this game. He picked it up fairly easily because we have watched the "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" movie several times. This helped him understand the game very easily. It is fun and involves some teamwork among players to save Lady. Diesel adds an interesting twist because he can win and none of the players can. We have had this game for a week and have played several dozen times and really love it. I highly recommend this for a child who is a Thomas fan.

This complicated set up isn't appropriate for the age level that this game is for (and I would be surprised if any child over 5 sustained an interest in this game). The game itself doesn't make any sense; trains just wander around the board while the player tries to find gold dust cards and track to rescue Lady. All-in-all, disappointing.

My daughter is a Thomas fanatic and bought this with her own money at the toy store. It is by far the worst board game I've ever had to play. It is very non-linear, in that you are not going from Point A to Point B. It's also repetitive and infuriating in its lack of sense. My daughter likes it just because it has her beloved Thomas, but we just groan when she brings it out. It really could have been much better. I hate when they will just put a popular character on anything. Would it have cost them more to have this make sense?
