4.0 out of 5 stars Not what we expected
From the look of the photos we thought that the trains in this game were somehow attached to the track but they are not. They just sit on the track which makes them easy to take off. There is a photo on the box that shows this and they should include that photo with the online description. Also, the legs don't stay on when you lift the toy to move it to a different...

2.0 out of 5 stars If you enjoy putting things back together, buy this.
What a disappointment. When fully put together and operating, this is a really fun toy that made both my boys, ages 3 and 4, squeal in delight. But as mentioned before, the minute you pick it up to move it, the legs, all 5 of them, fall off. There is also a support ramp that holds the climbing ramp that falls off constantly. We put ours on a little table, but when the...

There is a photo on the box that shows this and they should include that photo with the online description. Also, the legs don't stay on when you lift the toy to move it to a different location. They fall out very easily. They do have bottoms that swivel to make it level on any surface, but they just aren't very stable in general. My boys (ages 3 and 20 months) do like to play with it, it's easy to use and fun to watch. But it's definitely not what we expected and certainly not worth [the price].

We put ours on a little table, but when the table gets bumped, the track falls apart. I wouldn't buy this again. I am very disappointed in this toy. I can't imagine it would have been very difficult to have made the legs where they would "clip" in for more support. This was a major oversight.

In short, if you like constantly putting your child's toys back together, you'll like this. If not, stick with the rich and wonderful Thomas Wooden Railway! Now THAT is a toy worth buying!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun!, December 26, 2002

My 3 yr old son is very hard to buy for, as he is on the autistic spectrum, and has no imaginative play. He has recently begun to show a love for Thomas the Tank, so his aunt and uncle got him this toy for Christmas. He LOVES it! He watches the trains race around, and has even started flipping the switch that opens and closes the "starting" gate! This is a lot coming from a kid who usually has no interest in toys! His favorite thing to do is watch the trains climb up the ramp, so I usually end up removing the helicopter, because otherwise, he gets biffed in the head with it as he leans forward to watch the trains come up the ramp (which doesn't hurt by the way). As a side note, this toy was very easy to put together.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but flimsy., July 14, 2005
This review is from: Thomas' Race on the Rails Train Set (Toy)
Just bought this for my 4 yr old's birthday. Like a lot of little boys with autism, he adores Thomas. If I based this review solely on my opinion, it'd get a much lower rating. The pylons that hold up the track fall out very very easily. And sometimes in the course of putting them back, the whole track falls apart. Luckily, it's very easy to put back together. And the conveyor belt is noisy, and seems to go through batteries pretty quickly (thank goodness for rechargables!)

BUT I'm finding it to be worthwhile to deal with the problems because my son loves it so much. I think this toy is going to be around for a long time, if he doesn't break it, rather than played with momentarily and tossed aside like so many other toys.

If your child really loves Thomas, I'd recommend this toy, otherwise, you may want to skip it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A big hit at our house!, April 29, 2004

I got this for my now 4 yr old son for Christmas. He absolutely loves it! In fact, when we put it together Christmas morning, every single kid in the house gathered around it for ages, including nephews and a niece ages 4-8. We have it on a play table in our living room, so it doesn't get carried around, and we just leave it set up all of the time. That way, we don't have a problem with the legs. They do need some adjustment occasionally.
My only complaint is that the noise can get on your nerves after a while. Of course, since it's in our living room, it seems worse! :) My son can operate this toy very easily, which is a plus. Every one of his friends who comes over just gravitates right to it. The engines are small, however, so I had to make sure he knew not to carry them around so they don't get lost.
I'd recommend this for any Thomas fan over 3.

1.0 out of 5 stars MAJOR disappointment!, October 14, 2003

Santa brought this last Christmas and the kids were thrilled. BUT, I agree with the last review... this toy falls apart if breathe on it. My kids were constantly begging me to put it back together because it falls apart constantly. If the legs were made to "snap" in place, it would be one of the BEST toys made for Thomas fans. I cannot believe this toy passed any kind of toy inspection because it's a disaster as far as I'm concerned. I sold it at a garage sale for $3 this summer and was relieved to get rid of it. It caused a lot of angst and tears in this house. Too bad, because it really is a terrific and inventive idea for little Thomas fans.

My son loves this toy, as do all the kids around my house. My problem is that it is unstable and falls apart. He can't even play with it. We have had to crazy glue the pieces together many times now. It is now sitting on a shelf in our basement waiting on another repair and my son just wants to play with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars We love this toy, January 29, 2005

My 3 year old daughter received this toy as a Christmas present and loves it. She uses it everyday. Even for adults this toy is mesmerizing. The engines move cleanly and quickly and stay in their slots. I agree that the legs do come off too easily, but are easily replaced. This is only a problem when the toy is relocated. I recommend this toy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thomas race on Rails Review, July 18, 2004

I got this for my grandson's 3rd birthday. He absolutely loves Thomas, as does his older brothers. All of them were enthralled with the race at first, but the toy didn't last very long. It tips over quite easily, and that's frustrating for the little ones. Also, after a few uses, the trains wouldn't race anymore. They couldn't go down the tracks without a push. Changing the battery didn't help, either. If there were replacement parts, I would buy them, but unfortunately, I can't find any, so I guess the set will go in the trash. Unfortunate for such a cute toy.

2.0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY ANNOYING PEICE OF JUNK, January 1, 2006
This review is from: Thomas' Race on the Rails Train Set (Toy)
This toy is extremely ANNOYING. It keeps falling apart every second, no exaggeration here. It's worth $10 no more. $30 for this is highway robbery. I am thinking that I have to glue this thing to keep from falling apart. My son has fun for a few seconds then he gets frustrated because it keeps falling down and then I have to put those silly, poorly made sticks back on. Give me a break. I'm thinking of glueing it together, but then again I might return it for a quality toy, who needs to maintain a new toy?
