The Thomas Guides are superior to conventional fold-out maps, in that they are more compact, easier to handle, and better suited to finding your way around smaller areas. Usually, if you're driving to an unfamiliar address, a small, detailed map of the immediate area is better than a large map of the entire city.

This particular map, however, isn't as easy to use as other Thomas Guides. Going east or west is no problem; in most cases you simply turn the page to get to the adjacent area. The problem is going north or south, where you have to flip several pages to find the adjacent one. In other Thomas Guides, the maps are contiguous. Any two facing pages will be directly north or south of two other facing pages. In the Spokane guide, the pages are staggered. Going north or south from an open page will require you to flip back and forth between the two corresponding maps that are either directly above or below the ones you started from. I'm not sure how clear this description is, but the problem becomes obvious after using the map for a few minutes. Another way to put it is that facing pages (in all books using the Roman alphabet, not just this one) are even on the left, odd on the right. Going, for example, south from an odd page, the new map will be on the left, so the map directly south of the even page will be on the other side of the sheet.

This is the first edition of the Spokane guide; it would be great if the publisher could correct this in subsequent editions.

Print Maps of the Spokane region no longer are produced, so I was happy to find a used one. My old one was falling apart.

$2,400+ is a steal for this map! I was willing to pay more when I ran across this deal. Couldn't be happier. Now I have an excuse to pull over to the shoulder to see where I need to turn next. No more fumbling with pesky batteries or power cords on an electronic doo-dad. Get yours before they are gone forever!
