Grandpa & I are looking forward to adding BOTH versions of Stephen (this rusty-looking "original steamie", and another that's yellow & black) to our grandson's collection, and will be pairing them up with the "King of the Railway" DVD. You'll notice "Rocket" on his name plate... that's because he's based on the real-life "Stephenson's Rocket", the famous train who - in 1829 - began the "steam age" of trains! Stephen might be a bit slower and maybe not as strong as his friends who are newer, but no one can hold a candle to his knowledge and positive spirit. Like Thomas, he has his own coaches. We held out as long as we could to find this version of Stephen at Fisher-Price's $6 MSRP, but finally ended up having to pay two bucks more ($7.97) on Amazon to have him arrive in time for our December 14th Christmas celebration with our younger son who's coming in from Mississippi. It really was irritating, because as soon as it was shipped, Amazon lowered the price a buck! If you can wait longer than we could, definitely recommend holding off until you find it at or below $6... these Take-n-Play trains are no longer made of the heavy, high-quality diecast metal - they feel more like a sturdy plastic now. Not worth $6 any more, let alone what we ended up paying.

We have been avid Take-n-Play collectors in this house, starting a collection for our (then 2 1/2, now 5 year old) grandson when the line came out in 2010. Since that time, we've collected every train, vehicle, playset, track pack Fisher-Price has manufactured (along with all of the 2, 3 & 4 packs), in hopes that he'd be able to enjoy them with his own kids one day. Since we now have a 16 month old grandson as well, we'd planned to continue collecting TnP for many years...

Got this as it has the same name as my husband. Kids will love a train named after papa! Enjoy!

This is a beutiful version of Stephen the rocket from Thomas and friends. Unmatched in detail from other Stephen engines, and with his classic antique craftsmanship. My son and daughter love it, thought they do prefer the motorized Thomas and friends trains about half the time.

Obviously, this Stephen must be from when he lost his funnel going into the mine. :)

Bad quality as these new Take Alongs are no longer full for cast vehicles. It's much lighter and has a plastic body as compared to the same type I had bought in 2007. Disappointment as it won't last as long as the old sets.

This is a very nice product but it truly is more of a collector's item to be displayed than a toy to play with on wooden tracks. If the kid has a tendency to throw things this is not a toy you want in his/her hands.

Stephen is my 3 yr old sons favorite train of them all he loves him. He lost the first one and had to buy one from amazon to replace it. He has about 50 take n plays in all now and loves every one of them.

The train arrived packaged, without any problems or delay. I look forward to seeing the face of my three year old son on Christmas morning.
