Our son and daughter have a lot of fun playing with James - for anyone with kids who love Thomas the Tank Engine, this is a nice addition to their collection.

Definitely recommend investing in the talking line of Take-n-Play for your little one! Talking James says "(Toot Toot) Hello, I'm James!", "I'm the #5 red engine!", "(Toot Toot)", "I'm the brightest red engine on Sodor!", "(Toot)", and "Sizzling fireboxes!" James is one of the 8 member "Steam Team" (including Thomas, Edward, Henry, Gordon, Percy, Toby & Emily). Proud of his paint job, sometimes a little shallow, boastful & vain (but apologetic for those traits!), James is a bright red mixed-traffic engine with black lining, a yellow number "5" on the sides of his tender, and a total of 14 black wheels (2 small & 6 large on his engine, 6 small on his tender). Talking James first appeared on the original (Spring 2010) Take-n-Play Collector Checklist, and we paid $10.99 for our grandson's. (Update: Fisher-Price's summer 2013 MSRP is $12.) Our grandson really enjoys lining up all of his "talkies", dimming the lights, and enjoying the special effects as his engines chug around! (Someone recently commented that the talking engines they'd purchased didn't make the chugging sounds anymore in addition to talking. Apparently, Fisher-Price discontinued the chugging sounds with Salty, as well as new productions of the older talking trains. We assume this was done as a cost cutting measure - and this is truly a shame, since not only did the chugging sound add to their charm, but F-P also raised the MSRPs... a double whammie!Read more ›

Our sons love these little engines! They're very durable, and say 3 different phrases that I think I hear in my sleep they push them so much! The battery lasts years.

grandson was all smiles when he was able to add this train to Thomas' workmates. He gets them out every day and plays with them. It has proven to be very durable and has withstood some really rough handling and play trainwrecks!

The wheels are closer on this one so it is meant for the take n play series tracks and portable sets.

That being said, I love how it is crafted and it is very engaging because with a push of a button it utters different clear phrases.

Wish they could make these for the regular tracks.

One more thing, there is a magnetic pull in front of the caboose. Genious. Why don't all the trains have this-!?

We have at least 500 die cast Thomas and Friends trains. My son is "special needs" and he will play with his trains daily his entire life. In my opinion Thomas and Friends conveys wholesome messages, there is absolutely no way to go wrong with anything in their brand.

Worked great for two weeks. Then didn't talk anymore. Same with Thomas so don't think it was a bad one. Train is still a great little train though not sure I will spend the extra money for one that talks again. I will say my son was ecstatic when it talked.

I got this particular train for my nephew for Christmas this year, and very happy with the results. He enjoyed the different phrases that James says.
