4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
This is a nice train set at a great price that my 2-year old loves. She needs some help assembling the track, but she can do everything else herself, including turning the train on and off and getting the train to run on the track. Unlike her wooden train sets, this one holds together even when she crawls on top of it during play. I love the price of the Trackmaster...

2.0 out of 5 stars Design flaw
The second car hits the arch in the tunnel when the 'flipping' action occurs, resulting in the whole train jolting as it passes through. Buy another of the Thomas train sets on Amazon; seems like a well made product, wonder how they over looked this issue.

This is a nice train set at a great price that my 2-year old loves. She needs some help assembling the track, but she can do everything else herself, including turning the train on and off and getting the train to run on the track. Unlike her wooden train sets, this one holds together even when she crawls on top of it during play. I love the price of the Trackmaster sets--for about 20 dollars you get a complete set of track, a "building" and a battery-operated train! The Trackmaster trains generally fit and go on standard sized wooden tracks as well, although they often don't fit through bridges, tunnels, etc. You can get remote control trains for Trackmaster as well, which we haven't done, but plan on doing, because my daughter loves playing with the remote control Geotrax trains at friends' houses (Trackmaster seems to be significantly less expensive than Geotrax, but currently has less product selection). I hope Fisher Price offers more Trackmaster products in the future.

Trackmaster Arthur at the Copper Mine is a great combo at a great price (around sixteen dollars). Setting it up was fun and it took around ten minutes. Most of the time was spent taking apart Arthur and the extra car from the packaging as they used ties that were wrapped around the tires. You have to be careful as they may add unnecessary pressure on the tires. Setting up the tracks were straight forward. The only other thing confusing was the screw that needs to be removed to take the top part of Arthur for battery installation (You need to remove only the most rear screw at the bottom and then pull the top part forward and upwards).
The most fun part for my son was the magically filling of the cargo car (with copper) when it goes underneath the mine.
Overall i will rate it as five stars. Happy Mining!

My three year old loves this toy!
He is enjoying every minute spent with it.

The only negative is the batteries for the train have to be changed frequently. Otherwise it serves it's purpose. It was reasonably priced.

We found this to be a great starter piece for Thomas Trackmaster for these reasons:
1. Children can learn to make an oval track separately, a circle track separately, or both together as shown in the item description on Amazon.
2. The cargo flips over when it passes through the tunnel which our sons find rewarding and fun.
3. The engine (Arthur) moves on it's own with battery power so watching it go 'round and 'round is great for the kids.
4. It can be used with all other Trackmaster sets or pieces!

At the price I got this train set for I was able to buy this for a friends little boy. He loves Thomas and the products tend to be pricey. Amazon had a "great-can't-pass-it-up" deal. How nice is that?

This is the set that got my son hooked on Thomas. He still uses it as his main set even though I have since purchased too many engines to fit on the loop along with the track expansion set. I discovered recently too that the track switch that flips Arthur's copper in/out of the car can be lowered so that it doesn't do that (this is important because there are some other engines that will get caught on the switch) by flipping the track switch over and sliding down the little levers. As others have stated, this is a great set for the price. Definitely recommend it.

Our 3 y/o daughter got this for x-mas. We also bought the Thomas Busy Day set that is the circular layout. Both sets are wonderful and she loves them. I definitely suggest buying a track pack with extra pieces though. We wish we would have because she wanted us to help her build a bigger track with both sets. That is actually something we like about this brand. The fact that you can add on and combine sets. There are other brands that are a lot more expensive but this is just fine for little kids. I think the pieces are quite durable too. We have 2 mischievous cats that like to pounce and drag the trains off and our daughter can be a little rough on toys as well. So far, after almost 2 months everything has held up.

We have a lot of different trains but my 6 year old son, who has special needs, prefers ones that move on their own. Of course, some are more difficult for him to start/stop and most are impossible for him to put on the track by himself. However, right out of the box, he was able to turn on this train. He can even pick up the track and move it without it coming apart (at least not everytime!). We have both enjoyed this little train & I plan to order another model soon.
