4.0 out of 5 stars It's mesmerizing!
My 4-year-old son has a vast collection of Thomas stuff, but it's all the wooden railway. He saw this in a catalog and asked for it for his birthday. Given the inexpensive price (compared to the wooden railway elements), I went ahead and got it. It is SOOOO cool! With only 2 AA batteries (one in Thomas and one in Terrence), the set is totally automated. It's great...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Fun Wears OFF!
My 4yr old loved it the first few days but the fun wore off and now it is sitting in the closet. We got it at the end of January and left it set up for the first couple of weeks. Then put it away and I think we had it out a total of two times since. There isn't much of anything you can do with the set to change things around, the layout has to basically stay the same for...

Given the inexpensive price (compared to the wooden railway elements), I went ahead and got it. It is SOOOO cool! With only 2 AA batteries (one in Thomas and one in Terrence), the set is totally automated. It's great fun to watch. DS loves to just watch it go around.

On the other hand, unlike the wooden railway, there's no way DS could put this thing together by himself. Maybe in a year or so...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Alternative to Wooden System, December 27, 2003

The Thomas trains made by Tomy are a nice alternative to the wooden sets. The trains and tracks are made of plastic and are not interchangable with the wooden sets. The battery operated Tomy trains go fast compared to the battery operated wooden trains. The Terrence set has a number of cool features, but you'll want to expand the train track by buying some additional track. Unfortunately, Amazon only offers a limited number of items. You'll want to try some other on line stores to find additional track, switch tracks, tunnels, bridges, trains, etc. Overall, this set is a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for young kids, October 31, 2004
This review is from: Thomas at the Timberyard Set (Toy)
My 3 year old loves this Thomas because it not only goes around the track but has the center section that is unique where Thomas delivers and picks up the timber logs. I also bought one for my nephew who is 2 and loves Thomas. Kids at an early age are able to turn it on independently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mother of a 5 1/2 year old Thomas Fanatic, April 9, 2004

My son received this train set as a Christmas present and the entire family was captivated by it. It is made very well and we have had no problems with it. It would be nice if you could rearrange the track and have it do other things, but its still ok. With my son being older he can put it together and take it apart all by himself (a big plus). I think this is just great. My son has been heavily into Thomas since he was about 3 and he hasnt let up since and I can honestly say that we have not had any problems with any of his trains (wooden, metal, battery powered, etc.).

5.0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite, November 16, 2005
This review is from: Thomas at the Timberyard Set (Toy)
Our 27 month old got this set for his 2nd birthday and it has remained his favorite toy every since. When we go to the store, he walks past the wooden ones (which Mom prefers) and insists on the plastic Thomas trains. He plays with them daily. We have a gigantic GeoTrax set and quite a few of the the wooden Thomas/Brio/Imaginarium trains and buildings but he likes this set the best. The only toy that he likes better is his toy guns.

We bought this for our 3 1/2 year old son, and he absolutely loves it!! He will sit and watch it for quite a while, and he also likes pushing the train himself. It does take up a bit of space, but we have found that after you put it together a few times, you get the hang of it, so we just take it apart after he is through playing with it.

Then put it away and I think we had it out a total of two times since. There isn't much of anything you can do with the set to change things around, the layout has to basically stay the same for the loading and unloading operation to work. It is fairly easy to put together but that also makes it easy for the kiddos to take apart. I would be hesitant to buy it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Toy!, April 25, 2005

This is a very cute set! My 3 yr old loved to watch it, but we both grew tired of that after awhile. He prefers to push the trains himself. He can do that with the Tomy trains if switched to the off position, however this set is not compatable with the other Tomy trains in that you have to have the special freight car to trigger the different mechanisms. It is also a little difficult to combine this with some of the other Tomy playsets for this reason.

I bought this a month ago for my granddaughter to play with at Nana's house. Once I took the time to put it together right, I was so pleased with how it operates. It is so very cute picking up logs and dumping. Nice toy !!!

It is the best of Thomas. The set is fun to put up and watch it goes. It would be more fun if you do it like my son, he combines this set with the other 3 sets that he has and makes a longer run. He loves it a lot.
