Book Description

Stepney, a very old engine, is taking the museum cars to the Natural History Museum. James and Henry think that not only is Stepney an old "bucket of bolts," but that the museum cars carry "just a lot of old nonsense." When Stepney breaks down, Thomas doesn't want to get stuck being seen with the old dinosaur bones and relics of the past. What will his friends think, and more important, what will the children say? Thomas is in for a big surprise!

About the Author

In the early 1940s, a loving father crafted a small, blue, wooden engine for his son, Christopher. The stories that this father, The Reverend W Awdry, made up to accompany this wonderful toy were first published in 1945. He continued to create new adventures and characters until 1972 when he retired from writing. Reverend Awdry died in 1997 at age 85.

I have a 3.5 yr old son, and I find that this story, as written, is too abstract for him. He doesn't make the connection between what the trains at the beginning are talking about, the connection between Stepney and the dinosaur, the story about Topham when he was little, or how it's all connected. Thus, I have to create my own story and use a lot of creative thinking to make this story seems interesting to my son. :) However, he does like the dinosaur.

4.0 out of 5 stars My kid likes it... March 3, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I hate Thomas so this story is a little too long for me at about a paragraph a page. It also isn't really about a T-Rex. It's about Thomas having to help and older train with a fossil and an old chest. So if your kids likes dinos, he might be a bit disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dino-riffic Story! October 19, 2008

My son is five and has been into Thomas since just past his second birthday. This is our newest addition to our Thomas story books and my son just loves it! The fact that there is a dinosaur involved just makes it even better. He went straight to his tracks to create a Thomas-saurus track right after reading the book. My four year old daughter loves it too. Highly recommend this story.
