These are great strings. I suppose it all depends on the instrument. I have a single-back, $4000-ish violin. Certainly not a strad, but not a garage-sale model either. The Dominant strings made it really bright, almost obnoxious. I didn't really understand what I didn't like about the violin until I put these strings on. Now, I sound like a pro. The strings are well balanced, especially going from A to E. I can get a variety of tones from the instrument. I especially like the darker tone. All-in-all, I'm really happy with these strings.

Strings With the Soul of Paganini,

This review is from: Thomastik Infeld Red Series 4/4 Size Violin Strings (4/4 Size Set)
I bought this set of strings and put them on my violin which is a cheap $45 dollar violin. The violin has never had great tone but when I put these strings on the violin it sounded like a really expenensive violin, and the tone it produced was beutiful. I have changed the strings on my violin many times but these are by far the best brand I have ever put on my violin.

Awesome Strings,

I play both in an orchestra and as a fiddler and I loved these strings. The first time I got them, I was a lot younger and didnt really notice the difference in strings, but now I realize how good the strings were. The 'a' string that I have on my violin now is a regular Thomastik-infeld, and I hate it! It sounds kind of tinny, but the infeld red and blue strings sounded good, and took very little time to "settle-in." (Even in high-humidity weather)

A thrill to play,

I'm a self-instructed adult learner with a mid-level instrument, who aspires to eek out country fiddle tunes. At purchase, my fiddle had been set up with Dominants--which were (are) entirely adequate. But when it was time to replace the strings, I decided to explore other brands (just for the education) and after some research, settled on Infeld Reds. It's been said that even cheap new strings are better than old "good" strings--but still, I could tell a real difference-PLUS, when I put these on. I love them! They seem easier to finger, and yes, "warmer" than the Dominants. To my ear, the instrument now offers a little more upscale, "violinish" sound. (It took about 1½ weeks for the strings to stabilize and not require frequent adjustment to their tuning.) One disappointment: On installation, the gold 'e' immediately snapped when being tuned--well before getting up to pitch. The Amazon vendor for this set, when I purchased, was JOHNSON STRING--AND THEY WERE TERRIFIC. I figured, no harm in trying--but I'll probably have to just buy another string. Nope. Johnson promptly sent me a replacement string, at no charge. I'll go out of my way to use them, in the future . . .

Great Strings for Student or Professional,
This review is from: Thomastik Infeld Red Series 4/4 Size Violin Strings (4/4 Size Set)
These strings are equally at home in an orchestra setting, solo performance or fiddle contest. I have used them in all and they are of excellent quality. The tone is very rich and not at all harsh or shrill. The one negative comment I have is that the G string in my set snapped in less than 2 weeks of use. However, I contacted the company and they were willing to replace it less the cost of shipping (I never got around to sending it back). Overall, these are great strings with loud and powerful tone. The gold E is probably the best sounding E string I have ever played with.

Simply a great product! These strings set quickly and give that rich deep warm tones most violinist desire. While there are other very good brands of violin strings out there I personally enjoy these the most on my violin and will buy them again in the future.
