BUYER BEWARE!!!,
This review is from: Thompson Chain Reference Bible (Style 509burgundy index) - Regular Size KJV - Bonded Leather (Bonded Leather)
I must warn you all that Kirkbride is producing very low quality Bibles these days. I bought a Thompson KJV Genuine Leather about 6 years ago. It was printed on very nice quality Bible paper, creamy white with the words in Christ in a very beautiful RED. The paper held up to lots of wear and tear and still was in good shape. It was a pleasure to own
But what happened? The new Thompson Bibles are printed on very very cheap paper that is of such poor quality that the letters and words on the other side of the page shows through. I can feel the paper of the new Thompsons and compare it with my older edition Thompson and I was very unhappy to learn I was scammed. Also the words of Christ in red are in such a light shade that I found it hard to read - gone are the deep red print of yesteryear. I do not know what prompted the Kirkbride people to this. Maybe they want to get the more profit from thier Bibles and cut corners on paper quality. They are cheating the public by selling very shoddy Bibles and still charging thier high prices. Dont make the mistake I did (...)for a lousy version of a former great study Bible. I am sorry a classic Study Bible fell victim to corporate GREED.

Was dissapointed too,

Had to agree with other reviewers on the quality of current Thompson bibles. I compared my 15 year old thompson to a new version and I was disapointed. The leather cover was ok but the paper quality STINKS. The words of Christ are not as read as my old one and the paper is almost too thin and brittle. I dont know what happened but I guess they want to cut costs. I am going to buy an oxford bible insteasd
kinda sad

Exceptional home-study Bible,

This review is from: Thompson Chain Reference Bible (Style 509black index) - Regular Size KJV - Bonded Leather (Bonded Leather)
The Thompson Chain Reference Bible is certainly one of the better editions in print. I own a black genuine leather cover version of this Bible, which from the price and other characteristics I believe is this item (though it says the binding is 'unknown'). A brief summary of the features follows:
Wide margins- great for adding your own notes. Several thick flyleaves and notes pages for additional notes. One long black ribbon marker. Gold gilt page ends that have held up surprisingly well so far (mine is about 5 years old). Very thin but quite durable pages. Exceptional quality topgrain leather cover and stitched binding. Gold stamping on the spine that unfortunately doesn't seem to last nearly as long as the page ends. Word of Christ in red. Exceptional study helps, concordance, supplements, maps, figures, and archaelogical supplement. The noted size includes the box- it is actually about an inch smaller in both cover dimensions and about 1/4 inch shorter on the spine. The chain reference system is excellent, and the dictionary and helps are more extensive than any Bible I've seen so far. The maps are full color and very detailed, and include an index. Each book has a summary in the back, and each chapter has a summary of the noted points within. The concordance is far more than what you would typically expect, and each topic is a study in itself. It is indexed for ease of use. The archaeological supplement is likewise extremely insightful and covers many locations of interest in the Bible. I only have two major complaints with this edition. The first is that the pages have a tendency to stick together, and it can be difficult to turn them if you have dry fingers. The second is that the Bible is quite hefty and heavy, as you can see in the specifications above. This makes it somewhat awkward for holding and travel, and it's best used as a desktop study Bible. Overall, this is one of the better Bible editions I've had the pleasure of reading (and I have seen a lot of them) and well worth the purchase price. It is an exceptional study Bible for the home, and has superior durability.

Shocking Quality Decline,
By S Donahue (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thompson Chain Reference Bible (Style 509burgundy index) - Regular Size KJV - Bonded Leather (Bonded Leather)
I very sadly must add the name of 'Kirkbride' to such names as Thomas Nelson, World, Crossway, and a few others, who produce garbage Bibles. Kirkbride no longer produces the 'Deluxe Genuine Leather' editions, which was a soft nice cowhide that retailed for $89; what is now called their 'genuine leather' edition is this pebble-grained(Levant)cheap sheepskin-of-sorts, that is very nasty to hold in the hand. That, believe it or not, retails for $84 !!!! The paper is not as good as before. I have always hated the red-letter edition Bibles, but the red they now use is light and even harder to read. They have also come out with some awful rubber-like material in Ivory and Grey, and the spines collapse as soon as you open the Bibles. What junk. The interior features of the Thompson are still the same; however, the quality is el stinko. The most insulting thing is that, they are still charging the same outrageous prices for this borax. Kirkbride is a small company based in Indianapolis, and this is all they do. I guess they are really cutting costs---and quality. I e-mailed Kirkbride about their products' quality---and did not get an answer. Want quality Bibles? Oxford, Cambridge, Foundation Publications, Allen of Glasgow. Sorry, Kirkbride---you're no longer on my list.

Great Bible!,
This review is from: Thompson Chain Reference Bible (Style 509black index) - Regular Size KJV - Bonded Leather (Bonded Leather)
The Thompson Chain Bible is the prototype for most of the study bibles out there today. The fact that it is still a best seller speaks for itself. All Thompson Users should post their questions, comment, and opinions at the New Thompson Blog Site: www.tcchainusers.blogspot.com
