Editorial Reviews

Product Description
James Kalat's best-selling INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY does far more than cover major theories and studies; it encourages you to question the information and ask yourself, "How was this conclusion reached?" and "Does the evidence really support it?" In this student-praised text, Kalat challenges your preconceptions about psychology to help you become a more informed consumer of information not only during your college experience but, also as you venture into your post-college life. With his humorous writing style and hands-on "Try It Yourself" exercises, Kalat puts you at ease and gets you involved with what you are studying so that you can succeed in your course.

About the Author
Dr. James W. Kalat received his B.A. degree from Duke University, Summa Cum Laude, and then continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving his Ph.D. in psychology under the supervision of Paul Rozin. Currently, Dr. Kalat is at North Carolina State University where he is a professor of psychology, teaching both introductory psychology and biological psychology. Besides having authored the best selling biological psychology text, Dr. Kalat is the author of INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY, 8th Edition (Wadsworth, 2008) and has published articles on a variety of diverse topics such as taste aversion learning and on the teaching of introductory psychology. With Michelle Shiota, Kalat is co-author of EMOTION (Wadsworth, 2007). A talented and frequently requested speaker, Kalat receives rave reviews wherever he presents, including the National Institute on the Teaching of Psychology and the Texas Community College Teachers Association.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, June 22, 2009
I agree with the other reviews. It's awesome to be able to take out the chapter you're working on and not lug this huge book around everywhere. I was expecting an actual book based on the picture and description as well and wasn't sure if I would like the binder style, but that turned out to be a big benefit. The only bad thing about it is it's hard to keep the pages looking as nice and not to rip the hole punches. (I am planning to resell mine after I finish this class, so I'm trying to keep it in as good a condition as possible. That would have been much easier with a "real" book.) As for the content of the book itself, it is easy to read, lots of interesting stories, examples, and pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price for loose leaf textbook, April 3, 2009
I don't need to be spending over $100 for a single textbook. This was my answer. Nicely priced for a loose leaf textbook. I like that I can have it in a big binder and take out the chapter I want to study into a smaller binder. Same textbook for a smaller price. Definitely worth it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great choice for a text book., March 3, 2009
This text book is great for many reasons. You can keep the majority of the book in a 3 ring binder and take the chapters you need in a small folder. It lightens the load in your back pack. It also makes it 10 times easier to read in bed because you don't have a huge text book in your face.
I recommend the loose leaf.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what shown on picture and description
The picture and the description of the book showed a book, and what I got were sheets to put in a folder. It should have said that some place. What I got was new and in good shape.
