2.0 out of 5 stars Keep trying, Westlaw. December 13, 2012

I was excited when I saw this app, but after using it for several days now (I am a law student), I have a few issues.

1. The mobile interface leaves a lot to be desired. I had to go onto the full version of WestlawNext to change my default folder in order to not have to go through multiple extra steps each time I wanted to open a saved document. What's the point of a mobile app if I have to go to the computer each time I change topics?

2. The app periodically logs me out due to inactivity while I'm reading a case or article. But it doesn't warn me that this has happened. I understand that there are charges involved in using Westlaw, but it takes me more than a few minutes to get through one display page of a case or article when I'm taking notes. Example of the problem: I'm reading the article, and I click on a footnote, only to be brought to the login page. Which brings me to my next point.

3. Once I have logged back in, I have to go through ALL the steps I went through to get to the article I had just been reading. Once I finally get back to that article, I have to then click "Next Page" at the bottom of each screen until I get to the page I was reading when I got logged out. There should be a "go to page ___ " function on this app, as well as some sort of memory ability so it brings me right back to where I left off.

4. There is no highlighting and no annotating. You can make a note at the beginning of a doc, but that's all.

5. There is no ability to delete documents from your saved folders. So you have to make a note that you don't need it and later delete it when you get to a computer. In the meantime, be prepared to open that doc over and over again, because you can't see your note unless and until you open it.

6.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good start July 11, 2012

Not a bad start for Westlaw Next and Kindle Fire users. I could do the research steps well enough, but it was a bit cumbersome trying to save work to the right research folder. I prefer the click and drag method, which is not available here. I imagine it will be improved over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing app September 6, 2012

This is an amazing app. I couldn't believe it when I saw it pop up on the available apps for my kindle fire. I use westlaw all the time (I am a law student) and have only had access through a computer. I now keep my kindle on my desk and can access info immediately. I recommend this highly to law students and attorneys both.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low Functionality June 8, 2014

You can't highlight cases. You get signed out due to inactivity frequently while reading cases. Search function is limited. Can't narrow or sort search results. Simply not yet where the app needs to be to aid in the practice of law.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good start, needs work. June 18, 2014

They need to have a few people in the business work with the engineers on this app. It's not set up for lawyers or even legal students to use. It's close, but you just keep stumbling on the odd choices that were made.

Also it's another one of those 'free' apps that is basically a lie. While I understand I have to pay my membership due to use Westlaw, I am getting sick of these 'free' listings for programs that must be part of a paid account to use at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars What you see is what you get. June 17, 2014
Verified Purchase
Having been used to using Westlaw Next as a student for the last two years, I was very pleased to discover there is virtually no difference in the mobile version. This app does exactly what an app should do: takes you immediately to the desired location where you can log in using the exact same methods as on your desktop. Bravo to the developers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Apple app is better. August 18, 2013

I use this for work on my kindle fire. I've also used coworkers iPads and the app on there is much nicer. The layout is easier to use and it doesn't cause you to sign out all the time.
