5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for nickelodeon February 14, 2010
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I can't believe this is a nickelodeon movie. It's actually pretty good and can be appreciated by a broader audience. It's a chick flick - but with a refreshingly humorous vibe.

Saw the version released to the airlines (twice, actually, on a long international flight). Definitely enjoyed. Not trying to become a professional reviewer here, but the film is more than silly mind-candy for the targeted teen market. Touches on teen angst with appropriate humor and story development. Would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! January 3, 2010
By Aine

I finished the book on Jan 1, in order to see the movie air for the first time in the states. It was a really charming movie. I'm definitely buying it when it comes out. It's no great artistic film, but if you want to watch something that's silly and fun, this is it. The girl who plays the lead is cute and very funny. She really does a good job in the role. I'd definitely love to see movies made of more of the books in the series.

I didn't know if I'd like this, but it turned out pretty cute. Definitely worth a watch. Quirky romantic comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute and funny!! January 29, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I watched this with my 11 year old daughter. She really enjoyed the movie.

It's about a 14 year old girl who has a crush on a boy and she's trying hard to get his attention even though he seems to have the perfect girlfriend. Her parents have an incredible relationship, but her father goes to Australia for his job and her mother is left behind with her and her sister. Georgia believes her mom will leave her father for a younger man who happens to be fixing their house. A boy she has no interest in has a crush on her. Her best friend is dating her crushes's a really good story. Very funny too!! It does have a mature element to it with girls and their first kisses, bras and actual thongs.

I loved these books back when I read them--they were so funny and the characters were just insane and full of life. This movie puts the characters on prozac, removes 90% of their charm, and then ends with a bizarre, Nickelodeon-style, giant party scene that's really only missing a bubble machine to complete its utter ridiculousness. Dave is a pitiful, unfunny character. Robbie is even more emo than in the books. Georgia is a whiny pain in the rear with a very odd, overly slow delivery of lines. Rosie is about 10 minutes away from being taken to the morgue. Ellen is slightly less disappointing, but that's only because the original character is so pathetic. Let's not even discuss the bangs-less Jas.

The only reason I gave the movie two stars is that the first half kinda tries to do justice to the books (in a very sad way). So props for trying. I guess the folks at Nickelodeon took over in the last 30 minutes to make sure it had the requisite amount of cheese. Wasn't expecting Oscar-winning performances since this is a pretty frivolous series, but this? Really?

4.0 out of 5 stars It Grew on Me July 30, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I originally started to watch this movie because I was reading the book at the time and because I found out that Aaron Taylor Johnson played in the movie as Georgia's love interest which made me really happy. However when I started to watch the movie I didn't like it at first. I think it annoyed that in the movie that made the character of Georgia a bit more manipulative than she actually was in the book. Actually I don't think the Georgia in the novel was as close to being as manipulative as the movie version. However as the movie progressed and the movie Georgia learned certain lessons, I felt like the movie started to become better than the novel. In the movie Georgia learns lesson and matures greatly by the end. In the novel she remained a static character, and slight bully to her best friends. So I like this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars laugh out loud! March 21, 2010
By Andie
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is one of the cutest movies I've seen in a while. I purchased it for my daughter (who is a teenager) and we laughed like loons on loon tablets! You must be able to follow or at least figure out British teen slang but other than that it's very entertaining. We're now collecting the books the movie is based on.
