The mighty Norse warrior Thor wields one scary sledgehammer, as evidenced by his brutal conquering of the fierce serpent Migrand. This 36-piece model kit allows fans of the Marvel comic book hero to recreate this triumphant, albeit gory, scene. As a level 2 kit, the assembly is fairly easy--especially because the instructions are well illustrated and all the pieces are numbered. But bear in mind that that this kit does require significant patience, considering all the gluing involved. Once the 8.75-inch statue is built, it also has to be carefully painted to look like the cover picture (there are no instructions for painting). Most 8-year-olds can figure out the assembly but will probably need plenty of adult assistance with the gluing and detailed painting (model glue and paints are not included). --Hannah Reynolds

The other reviewer is absolutely right: this is a fun model for kids, not for the more expert model-maker. (That made it a failure in his eyes, not in mine.) My son and I made it and it turned out well. He painted it, and it was kind of a mess, but it pleased him greatly. It still sits in his room many years later and I think he's still happy with it-- a memory of a fun experience we had together. Is the kit well-made? I found it so-- all fit together well.

So: Got a 10-year-old who likes comics? He or she will enjoy this model, as we did. We also liked the other models in the series, some of which were a bit more challenging than this one.

I bought this model to expand upon my Superhero collection, which typically are vinyl high detail products. This model however was plastic, with uneven match points, and very poor detail. This model would be good for beginners, but for folks who try to take pride in the detail of thier work, this model is not for you. There is no amount of work you could do to make the model look any better than it does on the box, which appears to be the original sculpture it was molded after.
