As seen on PBS, this award winning visual ode to 19th-century philosophical writer Henry David Thoreau's beloved Walden Pond combines magnificent nature photography with highlights from Thoreau's timeless writings on the beauty and serenity of this New England retreat. Thoreau's Walden allows the viewer to walk in the solitude of Thoreau's footsteps and witness the idyllic wilderness of the famed Massachusetts pond as it might have appeared over 150 years ago.

Great DVD for anyone that wants to see Walden Pond and learn about Thoreau. Excerpts from the book "Walden" are illustrated with outstanding nature photography of the famous retreat in Massachusetts. The DVD is like a field trip to Walden Pond! As a long time Thoreau fan and teacher, received as gift. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys nature. Also, excellent tool for teaching Thoreau in the classroom.

I ordered this DVD in anticipation of teaching an adult education class on Thoreau's Walden. Having lived for many years in the Boston area before moving to the Pacific Northwest, I am familiar with the pond itself but realized that my students might not be. I will admit that the many spectacular nature films available today spoiled me a bit for a full appreciation of some of the images in this DVD, but it does give a very good idea of what the pond looks like in each season, and it avoids showing the bathhouse and swimming beach that were not there when Thoreau was there. The soundtrack consists of the natural sounds from the film, matched with excerpts from Walden, beautifully read by Robert J. Lurtsema, who was a colorful fixture of public radio in Boston when I lived there, now sadly departed.
