Product Description

Thoreau's Walden: Experience Walden Pond through the words of Henry David Thoreau.

As seen on PBS, this visual ode to 19th-century philosophical writer Henry David Thoreau's beloved Walden Pond combines magnificent nature photography with highlights from Thoreau's timeless writings on the beauty and serenity of this New England retreat. Thoreau's Walden allows the viewer to walk in the solitude of Thoreau's footsteps and witness the idyllic wilderness of the famed Massachusetts pond as it might have appeared over 150 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoreau's Walden December 13, 2002
By John K.
Great video for anyone who wants to learn more about Thoreau and Walden Pond. Excerpts of the book are illustrated with outstanding nature photography of Thoreau's famous retreat in Concord, MA. The video is like a field trip to Walden Pond! As a long-time Thoreau fan and teacher, I received the video as a gift. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys nature. Could also be an excellent tool for teaching Thoreau in the classroom.

Thoreau was a great American nature lover, naturalist, botanist, philosopher and writer. The early portion of this VHS video introduces the beauty of Walden Pond in Massachusetts where Thoreau built his now-famous cabin, communed with nature and developed much of his philosophy. The later portions focuses on Thoreau's philosophy of life. It could be used as an introduction that leads to in-depth reading or as a summary that brings to life Thoreau readings that precede it. The photography is first rate from an artistic standpoint, but lacks the extremely sharp resolution displayed in recent BBC films and elsewhere.
