He said they fit perfect, kept his feet dry (he has sweaty feet), and they were perfect in his hiking boots.
I'm about to order more, not because any wore out but because my sons have "borrowed" several pair.
They fit perfectly and feel like silk pillows on my tired feet.

The sizing dropdown lists Medium, Large, and X-Large (no Small) separately from 11/Shoe5.5-8.5, 13/Shoe9-12.5 and 15/Shoe13-15, and nowhere are the words defined. It also lists a "Men's5.5-8.5." The listing even shows some colors available for Large but different colors available for 13/Shoe9-12.5. Naturally you wonder if these are different socks or different packaging. They are neither, but I had to go to a local store to make sure.

    The word-sizes are:

Small (women only) is Unisex 9, U.S. WOMEN's Shoe 4-6.
Medium is Unisex 11, US Men's Shoe 5.5-8.5.
Large is Unisex 13, US Men's Shoe 9-12.5
    X Large is Unisex 15, US Men's Shoe 13-15

The US packaging for each size shows the word, the U.S shoe-size equivalent, and the Unisex Size in a model number prefix like KX13. There is different packaging for Men's and Women's, but the reason is only to show men's versus women's shoe sizes on the packaging.

The only reason the listing shows different colors for Medium, Large, or XLarge than for 11/5.5-8.5, 13/9-12.5, or 15/13-15 is that different vendors stock different colors, and some vendors listed with size words while others listed with size numbers. There is no other difference between the products or packaging.

Google "thorlo sock sizing chart" to find a detailed table of correspondences for word / unisex / men's / women's sizes including US, UK, and Euro units of measurement.

I'm a long time fan of Thorlon socks. But these seem a bit bulky, not as form-fitting as other Thorlon socks, and they seem to shed (wear) rather quickly. Time will tell on the wear issue. But I like the dark color, especially when wearing navy blue chinos to work (college teacher) with my Nike Shox (great shoes when standing for several hours and the students think the shoes are cool).

    (01/19/2009)

It's been at least 18 months since I bought my first pair and they have held up very well to frequent use. They seem to be more durable than other socks from the same company. The black color has faded a bit, but that does not matter since I use them for casual wear. I'd give them five stars if I could figure out how to change that part of my older rating.

    (06/19/2010)

I am still wearing the first pair, and others bought since then, on an almost daily basis. They just keep on being good, comfortable, and durable socks. No holes, no thin spots, and they still fit tightly and stay up all day. The fading slowed and stopped and I've come to like the slightly faded look now. I'm about to order more, not because any wore out but because my sons have "borrowed" several pair.

I've worn only Thorlo socks for the past 10 years, but these latest (purchased 03/2006) have really let me down. The material feels loose, no support, socks sag, and after only one day of wear the material has already "fuzzed" and looks as if it will be worn out within a week. Too bad, as I have many pairs of Thorlo hikers still in the drawer after years of use.

I'd recommend purchasing the Thorlo Coolmax Lt Hiker Crew Sock instead. This product has remained the same over the years, and I am very pleased with new ones which I purchased recently. The quality hasn't taken a nose-dive.

If the Hikers should hold up better than they seem, I'll update my review. Until then, pass on these and go for the Light Hikers.

These are the most durable socks I have ever had in my life. I bought three pairs online back in 1995 for hiking, and they all survive to this day. I haven't been hiking much in the last 10 years, but I still wear these socks with larger sized shoes, especially on instances I expect to be walking for some time.

The garter is of superior quality, that they still have not lost most of their elasticity and thus manage to keep the socks from sliding down my calf during physical activity. The color, while neutral at gray, bodes well with dark colored pants. And the comfort when you first wear them is amazing. They still manage some comfort after many years, just use fabric conditioner from time to time.

If these socks are still made in the USA under the same standards and materials, I would expect whoever buys these to have them for more than a decade and still going strong afterwards.

I have been buying Thorlo socks for 20 years. They are the best made, longest lasting and best sweat wicking socks on the market. I have purchased a few lower price competing brands to try them out. No comparison to Thorlo. These Men's Thorlon Hiker's I just purchased on Amazon are made exactly as they were 20 years ago. I still have a few of the socks that I bought 20 years ago to compare them to. Buy Thorlo socks and you will not be let down.

I started wearing Thorlo socks towards the end of 2006. These Men's Thorlon Hiker's are by far the best socks out of the bunch. They have wonderful protection for hiking and even everyday use. And best of all they don't sag and bunch up like other socks. I'm very impressed.

For me, these are the best fitting socks I have found and part of the good fit is that the elastic at the entry is not so severe as to make impressions in my calf. The sock would be perfect if it used more natural materials, such as wool.
