4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Socks
I live in NYC and i bought these socks for our cold winter days. I'm not much of a hiker.

They fit great, and they are a huge improvement over regular cotton socks in terms of both warmth and moisture-wicking ability (my feet don't get very sweaty in them).

3.0 out of 5 stars size is tricky
Ordered "Size 11" (men's) and got "Medium" which the sock package says is "5.5-8.5 Men's" and "6.5-10 Women's". Fortunately, they fit my wife. I'm trying again, nervously, and will order Size 13 to see if that produces "Large".

Great socks, though. 5-star.

I live in NYC and i bought these socks for our cold winter days. I'm not much of a hiker.

They fit great, and they are a huge improvement over regular cotton socks in terms of both warmth and moisture-wicking ability (my feet don't get very sweaty in them).

I usually wear them around the house on the weekends instead of slippers. I've found that slippers get very sweaty, but these socks work great.

The fit is very good- molded to the shape of your feet. The thickness is also pretty good, and I can still fit into my regular sized sneakers when I wear them.

For the price, compared to other wool composite socks I've seen, these are probably the best.

After 2-3 months of owning and wearing them on and off, I have noticed the bottoms are very "fuzzy" and if you hold them up to the light you can really see that extra fuzz on the bottom. I don't think they will fall apart, though. They seem to be holding up well.

This review is from: Thorlo Unisex Wool/Thorlon Thick Cushion Hiking Sock (Apparel)
Have purchased Thorlo for years. While the construction seems to remain constant, my feeling is that 'thick' is not as thick as it used to be.

This is the best all around / all year around casual boot hiking / work shoe sock on the market. Well worth the high price. Been wearing them for over 15 years.

4.0 out of 5 stars as advertised, February 19, 2009
These socks aren't TOO thick but they do have moderate padding/cushion. When you wear them, you notice a difference not only with regard to the padding all day but it'll put you in a better mood. I went back to regular socks after wearing these and the bottoms of my feet were burning (new pair of shoes) so i am totally spoiled now. I'm trying a few other brands to find the very best, but TRUST me, get yourself some high-quality, cushioned socks and you will kick yourself in the butt for not doing it earlier--it makes a true difference in your life! Some lady once said something like, "You better have a comfy bed and comfy shoes, cuz when you aren't in one, you're in the other," but she should have said socks. You'll never go back to six-packs of cotton bleh socks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hermes wings for the trail, September 7, 2007

These babies work like Teflon for sissy heels. I have always experienced blisters on my heels no matter what the boot, but these mitigated the problem on my longest hike to date (substantial, but not enough to brag; use your imagination). In addition, the added padding underneath the foot left my dogs nappin' at the end of each day, not barkin'. Sure, it's just a sock, but such a kind sock.

These were the first pair of nice hiking socks I've ever tried. They were so comfortable to hike with that I didn't want to stop! My feet stayed cool and cushioned all day long. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was that the heel is a little frayed after the first use, possibly because my boots are a little big and they were rubbing, I'm not sure. For socks that others have claimed should last for years and years, I was a little disappointed to see that. They're still awesome socks, and if you do any hiking at all, you'd do well by picking up a pair or two!

UPDATE: Been on several more hikes with these, and they're holding up just fine. I guess the fraying of the outer layer is pretty normal since it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. Also, I used to get blisters pretty regularly if I didn't tape up my feet. With these, I don't have to worry about it at all, my feet make it through any hike without any problems.

Very warm and comfortable without being too binding.

I'm a shoe size 9.5 and size 13 sock fits well.

Watch for "buy 4 get the 5th free", etc offers on the page.

These are not my first Thorlo socks -- and they won't be my last. They are taking a walking holiday with me in Wiltshire and along the Cotswold Way (UK). I wouldn't take any other socks.
