Book Description

It could have been just any night, and they could have just been any two brothers--but it wasn't, and they weren't. The scene is an Atlanta bar. The music is loud and the dance floor is packed. The good-looking brother picks up a girl. But when dark deeds ensue out in the parking lot, what happens next can only be described in two words: vintage Slaughter. From the opening scene to the last line, Thorn in My Side is as wicked as it is entertaining--an unforgettable piece of writing from one of the most beloved storytellers working today.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Wayne and Kirk are twins, real close-like. Yet in some ways, they couldn't be more different. One is a devout Christian, the other godless. One is a virgin, the other a notable debaucher. But despite being intimately related opposites--think "night and day," "right and left," "fore and aft"--you can say this for the twins: they stick together, be it through thick and thin, work and play, or rape and murder. Regarding the latter, author Karin Slaughter's inseparable pair engages in these and other dirty deeds in what must be the most disturbing and unforgettable tale of wayward brothers since William Tester's Darling. --Jason Kirk

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to it, literally! September 13, 2011
By Saffie
Format:Kindle Edition
This is even shorter than I thought it was going to be as nearly half of it is the first chapter from her novel Fallen, which is definitely good but I've already read it. THORN IN MY SIDE has merit in that the concept and storyline itself are extreme and thought provoking, the consciousness of one conjoined twin's of another's evil, but it is crudely executed and comes to a clumsy conclusion.

The main sticking point for me is the lack of content for the price. Surely this could have been given away as an introduction to what it is really selling or added as a bonus chapter to her next book rather than the other way around?

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed September 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
One of my favorite authors but this book was not worth even the cheap price I paid. Wish I had downloaded a sample first and I would have never purchased it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sick and twisted times 2 September 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
My first taste of Karin Slaughter's work came when I read her novel Fallen in May, I was thrilled when I heard about her new Kindle Single coming out and Pre-Ordered it when it was announced.

This Kindle Single has 880 location that is 33 pages. The story is a twisted and disturbing tale of to male thoraco-omphalopagus twins fused from the upper chest to the lower chest.

Each one has a conflicting personality from the brother who he is harnessed to. Kirk is the aggressive and violent, and Wayne the soft spoken religious persona that we receive the narrative from.

The story is a fast entertaining read as the two try to find their way out of some trouble very serious trouble Kirk got them into. It plays with the fact that even they are two separate people with different morals, they are still one body that must face consequences for the others actions.

The Single also includes a bonus chapter of her book Fallen. I really enjoyed this Single that give you background into the conjoined twins I give it a 5 star for originality, and twisted entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Karin Slaughter
I have not read this one yet, however, every other book of hers that I have read, I actually love, and I don't think this one would be any different.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good
I thought the book was pretty gross frankly. I did not read it all and would never read anything like it again.

Didn't find this to be the usual page turner. A little weird. But I guess it will appeal to some.

the first story was a crazy, strange, mixed up story. Not a book I would recommend. Love her other books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unlikeable
This is the second Karin Slaughter short story I have read and I equally disliked this one. Again here the characters are unpleasant and it ruins a story for me if I can't connect... Read more
