More About the Author

I'm Cynthia Thomason, writer of romance and some mystery. I am from America's heartland - born in Indiana and raised in Ohio. While working my way through college, I took a job at a radio and TV station and got hooked on journalism. To make a living, I taught high school English for several years before moving to south Florida where my husband and I started an auction company. I became a licensed auctioneer and estate buyer which fed my love for uncovering unusual and oddball items. Luckily I haven't yet crossed the line between collector and hoarder! Recently my writer husband, Walter, and I sold our business. I miss the excitement of the auction but I can write full time now. I also have time to experiment with the new Kindle craze. I have some back list titles up now for purchase. I have won the HOLT Medallion Award, the Golden Quill and Readers' Choice Awards and I've been nominated several times for the prestigious Maggie Award. Though I haven't won the Maggie, "It was an honor just to be nominated..." (Practicing for my Oscar speech :-) I love to write about American's small towns, similar to the one where I grew up in Summit County, Ohio. I like to travel the U.S. especially in the travel trailer we just bought so we can take Sparky, our adorable silky terrier mix. I have one son, also a writer. My favorite place to spend an afternoon is the mountains of North Carolina, but I haven't been to Ireland yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Author, March 23, 2004

This review is from: The Men of Thorne Island (Harlequin Superromance No. 1120) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read several books written by Cynthia Thomason, and I love this author.

First of all, her prose is lovely. It is a pleasure to see the way that she uses language.

Second, her heroines never are inexplicable bits of fluff that make a reader wonder why any editor wasted paper on them. All of her main characters are fully-realized and accomplished women.

THE MEN OF THORNE ISLAND is no exception to Thomason's style. Sara, the heroine, is an accountant who inherits an island with an old inn on it, an inn that looks charming in the brochure that the estate's lawyer sends her.

Of course, the inn is not charming, but Sara works miracles with it so that, yes, it quickly is made charming.

Sara also seems to know a great deal about running a vineyard and, conveniently, this island also houses an abandoned winery.

In fact, if there is a single flaw in this book, it is that Thomason is not allowed enough space to really explain and expound on Sara's apparently diverse and thorough store of knowledge.

Nonetheless, the novel races along, with the reader rooting for Sara and her growing romance. The character of Nick is one of those perfect fictional men that real women also hope to find.

THE MEN OF THORNE ISLAND is an interesting, entertaining and, ultimately, touching story.

I'm absolutely in love with this book! The dynamics of Sara and Nick's relationship kept the pages turning faster than I wanted them to. I laughed, but was intrigued to the very end (which I didn't want to happen). I think I'll just have to read it again... unless of course, there will be a sequel. Ha!
This was great reading and I highly recommend it. Great job, Ms. Thomason!

5.0 out of 5 stars amusing romance with serious undertones, March 8, 2003
This review is from: The Men of Thorne Island (Harlequin Superromance No. 1120) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fort Lauderdale CPA Sara Crawford learns that she has inherited Thorne Island on the Ohio side of Lake Erie from her Aunt Millie who she has not seen in fifteen years. Her aunt's Cleveland based attorney admits he has not seen the property, but the brochure he sent her makes it look wonderful. Sara changes her post April 15th vacation plans from Aruba to Ohio.

However, the island is nothing like the brochure, as the Cozy Cove Inn needs plenty of work to become habitable though four men live there. Apparently her aunt leased rooms to these recluses for twenty-five years at one hundred dollars per person. Though she wonders how these gents conned her aunt, to her surprise she finds one of the hermits Nick Bass quite attractive and he reciprocates. However, as they squabble and fall in love, he keeps a few secrets about his past from her including his true identity fearing that once she learns the truth it could end their relationship which was built without trust.

THE MEN OF THORNE ISLAND is an amusing romance with serious undertones that will grip the audience through the lead couple, the other three rascally hermits, additional secondary characters, and a yellow VW Bug. The story line provides the audience with delightful dialogue often humorous, yet it continually reminds the audience that everyone needs somebody to need them. Cynthia Thomason writes a contemporary romance that will turn the sub-genre into hermits for a few hours.
