5.0 out of 5 stars Grows on you like a Lovely Fungus, April 7, 2004
This review is from: Thornhill (Audio CD)
Being a gigantic Moxy Fruvous fan myself, I was disappointingly suprised when I first heard Thornhill. I thought to myself "This isn't the Fruvous I grew to love from B and Bargainville!" Wha' Happen'?" But then, I lent this CD to my friend, about two years ago. And he has yet to return my copy. I began to miss this CD so much, that's how good it is. It simply grows on you. It shows how versatile a group Fruvous is; they don't simply tickle your funny bone, but they are poignant and harmonius. Earthquakes will be in your head all day, as will Sad Girl and Downsizing. Long story short, I had to buy a new one, and it was worth it. Better than pirating a copy. Fruvous needs money too. If you are a fan of Fruvous, of music, or of life in general, Thornhill is a must-have that will grow on you over time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice CD, But Not Their Best Effort, March 6, 2000
This review is from: Thornhill (Audio CD)
I am crazy for Moxy. I discovered them several years ago on the local public radio station. They hooked me with KING OF SPAIN from their Bargainville CD. I hunted that CD down and have been a Fruvous fan ever since. My CD changer is full of their CDs. Sadly, THORNHILL doesn't have the punch of their previous efforts. Their prior releases are dense with terrific and very listenable songs. Thornhill, while a fine recording, just isn't as enjoyable on the whole as YOU WILL GO TO THE MOON or BARGAINVILLE or the other albums. SPLATTER, SPLATTER and I WILL HOLD ON do stand out as brilliant songs, but the rest of the disc is forgettable. I love these canadians and am hoping for a finer, future effort.

The songwriting, performance, production, and packaging are all exquisitely wonderful. My favorite CD of 1999 so far.
