Best Album So Far This Year? I'm Serious.,
This review is from: For Those About to Shop We Salute You (Audio CD)
This album was worth what I paid for it before I even popped it in the CD player. My first belly laugh came at reading, on the sticker that comes on every new release, that it featured "Great Nachos, Great Price." That's quite a bold statement of a lead single, but then none of the other FIFTY tracks on this CD crosses back behind that line of "so unabashedly commercial that it ceases to be marketable." More laughs pre-listen: the liner notes. I suggest reading these through, listening to the album, and then reading them again. They only get funnier once you've heard the music. Every single song has a little explanation of who Parry ripped off and what he was thinking of when he wrote it. And he makes invaluable observations like: "I just can't picture Morrissey having a beer with his lady." Me either.
Aside from the hours and hours of laughter you will get from listening to songs like "Do You Like Waffles?," "Maybe You Need A New Deodorant," and "More Blades = Better Shave," (this album is up there with the Tenacious D CD for funniest recorded music ever) the most amazing thing about this album is that these 51 songs, most of which fall into the 30-50 second range, contain a greater range of guitar riffs, catchy vocal melodies, and genre experiments than the entire careers of 95% of commercially popular rock bands. Parry cuts through the garbage and admits that simplistic four chord riffs are not neccessarily worthy of 3 to 4 minute long songs. But wow, 51 compressed versions of that same formula in 35 minutes is an experience you'll never forget.

THAT you can count on. Buy this. If you don't like it you have no sense of humor. Nerf Herder rules and so does Parry.
Standing in line at the grocery store will never be the same again. Eating at Kentucky Fried Chicken will never be the same again. Oh and If you don't shower after sports you'll smell like a hot summer day in bangladesh! And European Football rules!

If you don't know who Parry Gripp is, he is one of the greatest song writers of all time. His work with his band Nerf Herder has more pop culture refrances than a TV show On E!. Parry's Solo Album For Those About To Shop, We Salute You. Is the exact same. If you like catchy poppy punk look no further. Parry Gripp is the best at what he does. If it came down to it who would win in a fight Weezers Rivers Cummo or Parry Gripp? I would put every penny I have on Parry Gripp.

Seriously, this cd just made me laugh and laugh and laugh, love it. I wasn't expecting what I got, its basically a CD on generic to-be-used commercial jingles... kinda like a pre-sell-out sell-out

If you like making up your own ditties, this was made for you,
This review is from: For Those About to Shop We Salute You (Audio CD)
This is an awesome album that will have you humming his hilarious short songs for days. It's not just that they are funny, but actually good little tunes. And Parry discusses each one in the liner notes, so you get a better idea of what styles or past songs each is emulating. Some of these songs are downright genius.
For fans of Nerf Herder, I would say this album is a must. Parry Gripp's unique style of lyrics are in full effect.

Parry Gripp is one of the most talented people I know. He rules and that just about says it. BUY THIS RECORD! You owe it to yourself. While you're at it, you should have "Up butt coconut" as a ringtone. YAY Parry!

Very funny! Lots of songs!,

Over fifty tracks about everything from waffels to truckers to moulthwash! This cd is a must have for anyone with a really random sense of humor. All of the songs are very catchy. While some could find the fake commercial jingles annoying, I found them very amusing. Since every track is under a minute long, they don't get repetative.

A co-worker had this album and being a fan of Nerf Herder I borrowed then bought it. This is a great witty album! Love the music especially when the lyrics don't really match such as Bran Flakes and Health Food Store. If you don't like one of the ditties then no worries - it's only a minute long. No doubt this album will eventually get it's due - the originality of the concept and quality of the music will rise to the top like it deserves. Until then those of us who have it can look piously at those who don't.
