Kindergarten-Grade 2?McPhail's pigs are back, and this time they can do just about anything, from fending off shark attacks to charming boa constrictors to flying. They travel in space, tickle generals out of their warmongering ways, and faithfully stand by their friends. The rhymed text?a catalogue of the animals' activities?doesn't always work, but the large, humorous watercolor illustrations shine. Readers will enjoy the pseudo-Superman and cowboy outfits, the pig-shaped water tank, and many other droll touches. Although this book doesn't have the surprise and sparkle of the title that spawned it, Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore (Dutton, 1993), it is worth considering. The can-do pigs take the readers through their exciting day of all that they can-do. The can-do pigs spend their day helping others by cleaning, fixing, and being loyal friends. They still find time have fun on top of their busy schedules. The best part about the can-do pigs is that there is nothing that they cannot do. This is a fun story that grabs children's attention through silly rhymes and beautiful watercolor illustrations. There is no set plot to the book. The can-do pigs are a spontaneous bunch that are always doing something. It is an enjoyable book to read with children. This is a book that children will have memorized in no time at all!

I teach elementary school ESL and I love to use this book to teach about action verbs. The pigs do so many different things. The illustrations are great and teach the kids tons of different and interesting verbs. The kids in my class love it!
