Book Description

March 1, 2004
When Mark Rippet gets off the plane at LAX, he's excited about returning home to Los Angeles. But positive feelings are shoved aside when he discovers somebody is trying to kill him. The threat may stem from his murky past, for he has no enemies in L.A. At least none of which he's aware.

When Mark meets Eva Starling, an economist of note, she has hard questions about the bankruptcy of Mark's father. He doesn't have all the answers she needs. But her questions lead him to consider he may be marked for death because of something he already knows or may discover.

Both Mark and Eva quickly find themselves struggling to survive. And their chances are slim, for they are pitted against a shadowy group of conspirators with sinister objectives. And nobody will be allowed to deter them.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Exciting; a true page turner. After the first paragraph, there was no place I was willing to put it down." -- Mari Bontrager

"Phew, . . . that's one mighty good book." -- Celia A. Leaman, eBook Review Weekly

. . . This murder mystery will keep you scrolling the screen or turning the pages to find the answers. -- K. Ann Barnett

From the Publisher

McElwain writes stories in which vivid and startling characters drive the pace quickly. And all is flavored with that dynamic unique to L.A. Tautness is McElwain's watchword. While he never leaves the reader behind, he seldom includes an unnecessary word.
