5.0 out of 5 stars Rev. Crowley has done it again!, April 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Those Who Have Risen (Audio CD)
Acheron is one of the few Black-Death Metal bands that are TRUE SATANISTS. Rev. Vincent Crowley has never used Satanic imagery simply to sell records, unlike other bands. Acheron's music has always been real and even atmospheric in a way. Acheron's first few albums were mostly dealing with topics such as Black Masses, Demonic Posession, and the like. I always sort of imagined Acheron's music as sort of the soundtrack to "The Satanic Bible". But now we have this latest release from them entitled "Those who have Risen" which was inspired by the teachings of the Temple of the Vampire. There also seems to be some similarity between "Risen's" lyrics and the "Necronomicon" book. Now the music. This album has everything that one could expect from Acheron, but with improvement in song structure and sound. Keyboards are used in almost every song, adding to the powerful melodies already being laid down by guitars, drums, bass, etc. This is most definitely one of the most original albums that I've ever heard. This album also features guest appearances by George Fisher(Cannibal Corpse) and David Vincent(ex-Morbid Angel, currently in Genitorturers). An interesting note is that Rev. Vincent Crowley, aside from already being a priest in the Church of Satan, is an initiate in the priesthood of Ur. All in all, this is probably Acheron's best work to date. If you like original, intelligent MUSIC, then you should give this album a chance. Rege Satanas!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a kind !!, June 17, 2004

This album is like no others. I don't really care for any of Acheron's past music, but this is much different than anything they have done in the past. Acheron's sound is usually just straight forward slow grinding Death Metal with nothing special to add to the genre. TWHR is a very dark, melodic and evil album with lot's of slower haunting passages and has at least three different Metal genre's all in one. Vincent has a deep and understandable vocal sound that only he can make. It's one of those albums that kicks you in the groin right from the get go and keeps growing on you with every listen. The music played here is just very Serene Death Metal with a touch of Black Metal. The drums being played on TWHR are incredible. This album is all about Vampirism and blood being the LIFEFORCE. It's awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampires Exist..., March 30, 2003

Draconis Blackthorne (The Haunted Noctuary) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Those Who Have Risen (Audio CD)
"True vampirism is beyond the Hollywood aesthetics that filmmakers like to portray. In reality, it is an ancient form of magick and manipulation that predates all known religions. Yes, vampires do exist! So sacrifice your lifeforce unto us as you listen to our musical conjuration. You know you must!"
~ The Rev. Vincent Crowley {Maylos} XXXII A.S.

Rex Diabolos Church's "Satan III" masterpiece graces the cover of this magnificent musickal opus, icrca XXXIII Anno Satanas, spawned of sanguinous contemplation. There are liner notes included herein, elucidating some of the basic principles & philosophies of The Temple of The Vampire, including The Dayside, Nightside, & Twilight perception / states of being. This is the premise of "Those Who Have Risen", & being that I Am a fantom of Vampire lore Myself, as well as a member of both organizations involved in this project, I was extremely pleasantly delighted also to discover that one of My favorite groups is integrating this theme.

The musick is comprised of soundscapes which descend into Hell with the heavist grinds of the guitars, & unto a simultaneous ascencion to the thunderous black clouds with the strains of mighty string & organ materializations, leaving one in various stages of euphoria. Of special note, the introductory opus entitled "Nosferatu Prelude" which is quite haunting, & perfectly integratable into one's rituals & vampiric persuits. Inside, a vampire's rictus greets you with extended fangs {HP Gilmore?}, & a dark beauty grasps a ceremonial dagger - she also poses within the CD booklet with Rev. Vincent Crowley {Maylos}. Overall, a splendid manifestation from The Abyss of Nightmares, conjured powerfully by Satan's minstrels.
