5.0 out of 5 stars One word enters my mind......WOW
Marques Wyatt, I never heard of him before until I listened to Sound Design Volume 1. I was impressed with that CD but not extremely. Then I discovered the release of this CD, For Those Who Like To Get Down. I have to admit that this is an excellent piece of work. Wow the first time I heared it, I was so surprised how "fresh" it sounded. If you like deephouse or...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for the collection
This is a good CD for you collection. The first five tracks alone are worth money. After the first five it takes a dive. But it continues to stay afloat.

If you like deephouse or just funky, soulful house, buy this cd. Check out more artists from OM records like Mark Grant, Kaskade, and off course Mark Farina.
Also very recommendable: Joey Negro and Kerri Chandler.

To get back to this cd.....I simply like all songs which are used in this mix. But I love track 2 Erro - Change for Me, so good it sounds. Furthermore tracks 3, 4, 9, and yes track 12 - Doctor Rockit, Cafe De Flore, lovely choice of instruments.

4.0 out of 5 stars MARQUES WYATT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!, July 9, 2003
This review is from: For Those Who Like to Get Down (Audio CD)
After reading the reviews on this CD, I went out and got it...actually, I did sample it in Borders, but passed it up for, what else--another lackluster chillout CD...if I had a dime for every one that I bought and didn't like, I would've had the money to buy this CD...at any rate, I'm digressing as usual. Wyatt's "For Those Who Like to Get Down" was the shiznit!! Perfect mixes, well selected songs and FUNKY!! Cuts 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 10 and 13 are stand outs on this very impressive CD...but the groove is slightly thrown off by the infusion of a gospel song on cut 5 (Precious Lord). I see what Wyatt is going for, but with this song, it just doesn't work and becomes irritating after repeated listenings. Love the music, though. Nevertheless, that one track doesn't tarnish the concept and energy of the album, or disrupt the flow of it either. Marques Wyatt is a phenom and innovator in his own right in the oftentimes monotonous world of House music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix and blend of tone, ambience, May 27, 2003

This house compilation is a great blend of tracks in the jazz-like vibe of the Naked Music label releases that revitalized house music a couple years back for those of us who aren't lucky enough to be in big cities where it never went away, but got real boring. Wyatt gives us funky, chord-laden grooves over smoothed-out 4-to-the-floor rhythms throughout, seemingly taking criticisms of his other ventures into non-house territory to heart a little. The stuff on here smokes, moves a party with ease, and doesn't just turn into some trance-inducing, numb drone stuck in your frontal lobes. Great singing, great mixing and great melodies abound. The best compilation of house to hit my deck outside of a Naked Music compilation, and this one is actually better (read, more consistent with the quantity vs. quality ratio of the songs) than a couple of their later releases.

Standout tracks (though the whole CD REALLY smokes):
#2 Osunlade presents Erro "Change for Me"
#4 Demetrios Project "Feel Alive"
#13 Kerri Chandler feat. E-Man "Brooklyn (Where I Live)"
- this is just a fun track
#14 The Rurals "Rubbersong"

If you're into house at all, you need this. If you're just interested, this is a solid buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Down With Marques., July 15, 2002
By
This review is from: For Those Who Like to Get Down (Audio CD)
Marques's last disc, "Sound Design" was a very good mix CD that otherwise strayed off course a few times. But on "For Those Who Like To Get Down," the mix is more consistent, the groove is tighter, and the beats are relentless. This CD clocks in slightly over 70 minutes, but it never wears out its welcome, and it gives us house jams that have soulful vocals and strong hooks. For those who like to get down to house music, you can't go wrong by following Wyatt's groove.

5.0 out of 5 stars For ANYBODY that likes to get down, August 19, 2009

Hey everyone,
I am a total MUSIC/DANCE NUT!!!! So I must totally recommend this CD. From the first time I heard it until now...It sounds the same-in the sense that GOOD MUSIC sounds good no matter how old or new it is. This one always sounds new...everytime I listen to it. The title track will totally leave you wanting more, as well as my personal favorite,"Mind Magic". If you like to get down, then you need to check this CD out.
This cd takes you on an emotional and physical journey that leaves you with only ONE option... TO GET DOWN!!!!
I LOVE this cd for working out, teaching a dance class, or listening to it on my IPOD while walking from here-to-there.
Marques Wyatt thanks for all the good music you put out...I can't wait to meet you!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars altar boy, mint juleps, & orange marmalade, July 2, 2002
This review is from: For Those Who Like to Get Down (Audio CD)
Marques Wyatt shows up label mate Mark Farina on their recent Om recording label albums. Although CONNECT by Farina has the big edge on funk and world class confidence, Wyatt's FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO GET DOWN has more soul, sustenance, and borders on religious with a rousing gospel influx. Have doubts? The girls get the message across with substance on Osunlade's "Change For Me", Slowsupreme's "Green Tea", and Demetrious Project's "Feel Alive". Paul Johnson delivers the major sermon, worthy a sprinkle of wholly water on "Precious Lord". These songs seem to be born out of some down south, delta lowlands. The ethereal drift continues on "Love Vibe" by Iz & Diz. Continental plates shift as we find ourselves in the "Magic Mind" of Majestika. Travel deeper into this dark world with "Loot" by Mafikizolo. African rhythms lead you right through Shaun Escoffery "Days Like This" and Ola Jagun's tribal "Oda Oya". Back to center and some smoky Parisian east bank on Charles Webster's subtle mix of "Café de Flore" by Doctor Rockit (aka Herbert). Cross the Atlantic and safely back home in "Brooklyn" by Kerri Chandler. I guess most of the music on this disc would come under the house music moniker, but the worldly and spiritual influences are obvious and lend credibility. High fives to Mark Wyatt and his choice of top notch material and skillful blend therein. All sounds like a great day on the grassy slopes, a majestic view of some alluvial soundscape - a perfect picnic of heart, mind, kicking your feet up, grooving around, and upside down.

This is the real McCoy: Thumping bass, slick *ss mixes, a great groove for any party. This was my intro to Mr.Wyatt and I am not dissapointed. If you like Ben Watts, Arman Van Helden, Blaze, Timmy Regisford, Lazy Dog Vol I, you will love this CD--but only if you like to get down...

Marques Wyatt has created a minblowing mix of electronica, funk & deep house that's blended to perfection. Put this in your stereo & you won't change the CD until the last track has played. It leaves you craving more. I recomend this to anyone that wants to hear good music & dosen't want the party to end.
